I know this will be met with some negativity by a lot of the people who suffered the grind and think everyone else should but here goes.
Make the double exp event include expertise bumps as well start it this Friday and run it the entire month of June.
Discount the game from 25-50% off for the duration.
Give content creators hundreds of copies of the game to give away. Specifically, the creators who have stuck with NW content as a primary.
This could potentially cause stress on high pop EU and east coast NA server’s worth the risk I think. Yes I know a large amount of players will hit end game fast get bored due to lack of content, but some will stay. My opinion at this point increasing the number of players in anyway is a good thing.
Yeah it would be nice if double exp event also influenced expertise gain for people. The concept of giving content creators the ability to hand out a few copies of the game isn’t a bad idea either because of how hard it is to influence new players to try the game without getting agitated.
At least when I was leveling, I was doing it along side everyone else in the game so it made it competitive for me almost.
Though with where the game currently is and the lack of new players experiencing it, I’d almost suggest two different things for it.
Make a free to play period for an entire month. The grind is too long for new players to get a feel for New World with only a few given days. Or at least make free to play weekends happen more frequently.
If the first option isn’t a potential solution, maybe make the game free to play. Somehow compensate the players who bought the game, make the shop more suited for New World’s profit… and then make it where players can spend money in shop and post what they bought on the market for others to buy. New World can even add a on the side subscription fee for special bonuses or something like dyes for costumes and faster expertise bumps, etc. (Game still free to play, just a small monthly fee for special benefits).
With how it’s been lately, the game hasn’t been attracting many new players. Some don’t even know how worth coming back to New World is. So unless there is some kind of crazy update that’ll influence more players to come back or try the game, I don’t know how to get them to return.
Could even try reaching out to a popular streamer that doesn’t play New World with a few free copies of the game for them to try and maybe attract a wider audience.
Edit: while I’m not complaining about the bigger hit boxes on bow, that’s just a benefit to me. Melee is the the STR domain, and maybe other builds if they can get a stun off. I don’t think this is a good approach for allowing PvP to thrive, CC game mechanics should never dominate PvP it should be based on what the person does.
Some combat changes are always nice, but I’d want it to balance things out so all weapons have a place in the game. Really, a bigger focus to me is something like Gravity well. I don’t mean like “Oh it is too strong”, I don’t care about that at all. I just hate how my frames drop very low when one or two gravs are thrown on me in the middle of war. I’d like to see things running smoother.
Really don’t want to instantly derail this into a what’s wrong with the game thread although I agree with what both of you are saying. I came directly from ESO to NW with a full guild of people 90% of them left because of the gear crafting RNG not allowing them to make lots of varied builds like they were used to in ESO. I also think the combat system in general is sluggish and more like a chess match then anything close to action combat.
As a longer term goal I totally agree. I just want them to capitalize on the double exp event as much as possible now. If it only lasts a weekend or even a week it won’t bring in any number of new players or even allow the current casual players to make any meaningful progression in terms of catching up.
Completely agree, there are really good players around now but all utilise the CC mechanic as part of their rotation.
I think a problem for me is the hit recognition , which would need to be improved. Weapons passing through people happens a fair bit, which implies that where they are on my screen is not where the server, or worse their machine, thinks they are. Be interesting to see how that works, as in the past those with low ping 30 or less, or high ping 120+ are much harder to hit. If it’s server based you’d expect it to only happen to low ping players.
