Brimstone Sands launch - server concerns

I love New world and am a returning player after stopping around December 2021.

AGS have done a lot since then and I believe if the game launched as is there would be millions of active players still. Yes there are still issues, but it’s better. (as a PvPer, and someone that can’t play a lot due to other commitments, the lack of equalisation in arena bothers me for example)

I wasn’t really happy with how AGS handled the launch, especially locking servers.

Anyway, point of this post is that I’m hoping to get some traction with my opinions on how they should handle the launch. All of these opinions revolve around the scenario that a large influx of new and retuning players join us.(some context here, I’m on delos, the last oceanic serverl

  1. I don’t think Amazon should lock servers, please do not prevent friends from playing together. This killed the game at launch for many of my mates that were forced to roll on another sever and play alone. (they came late so half of us didn’t want to start again). MMO players are use to queues at launches. Yes some of the queues were ridiculous though, on OCE servers though it wasn’t that bad.

  2. IF they do lock servers, do not keep them locked for too long. Another issue that occurred that several servers were sub 1500 players about 2 weeks after launch and they kept them locked for a month.

  3. Please add new servers where transfers aren’t allowed so people can reroll and experience the game fresh. Personally even myself would be tempted to start again even though I don’t have heaps of time to play. The experience at launch was awesome with players everywhere, world Pvp etc.

  4. If the game did take off again, some servers would be needed for free transfers of course. But it should be made obvious these are “transfer servers” rather than designed for new characters etc.

Yep, there’s a bit of hope here hah, especially how we only have 1 server. But if people come back and they are locked from playing with friends this will fail again.

In summary give people choice not restrictions.

I would assume they have considered this, but they are too trigger happy with locking servers. Imagine the new servers that get setup for no transfers and new players only… Then they lock the servers again.

Just leave queues and add more servers (maybe just don’t go overboard) AGS will lose returning players (if the content release is successful of course.)

Why do community managers reply to posts about random stuff that doesn’t even matter, but never important things like this.

During primetime there was an equal amout of players playing the game, to those stuck in the que on USA East coast servers over the weekend.

How the next two months are managed will determine the long term health of the game.

For my sake since i really enjoy this game i hope it is managed well.

If this last weekend is the direction, it will not bode well.

It was the perfect storm. Holiday weekend, half off sale, Medley fair finally, and new expansion being hyped. Preceded by massive server merges.

My fingers are crossed.

Yep, they should anticipate the same type of issues as this weekend and the original launch when they launch brimstone otherwise it’s over.

If they don’t, it would be quite odd…

Great, except I’m in Australia, and we have one.

I guess the same can be done for us if brimstone brings back a lot of OCE/SEA players.

I think for brimstone sands they would need to open around 10 more new servers in each region.
Also and this is very important make some South East Asian servers too! Those poor players have to play on Australian servers with very high ping.
