I was doing some testing through hundreds of attacks on a training dummy to see if the keen perk on my shield would stack with the one on my sword and discovered that the sword by itself does not gain any critical strike chance through it’s own keen perk. Here are the results of my tests with all attributes reset, perks reset, zero attribute gear (stayed under 50dex), and with/without wearing a keen round shield.
Sword = 600 GS / +11% Keen (Critical Chance)
Shield = 585 GS / +11% Keen (Critical Chance)
Sword Only, No Shield (200 attacks) = 5% Critical Strike Chance
Sword And Shield (200 attacks) = 15.5% Critical Strike Chance
I have also tested both the same sword but a non-keen shield and found that the critical strike chance returned once I started using a random non-keen round shield. This means that the keen perk will only work if you’re using a shield and won’t work for shieldless sword builds.
It’s a shame that keen or vicious perks don’t stack though.
