I also am not seeing any increase in damage from using a focus build and arboreal gem. In fact the weapons main stat increases the damage rather than focus.
I’m so glad there’s a bug report for this. I reported this months ago in alpha and nobody believed me. In my experience it just seems to split the damage into whatever the weapon’s base damage type was and then a percentage as Nature, but it never actually adds more damage which is what it’s supposed to do. Hopefully they’ll take a look at it this time!
Just used the stats from level up reward to test this. It does actually increase.
Main stat for the weapon increases the base attack of the weapon. The gem splits the damage and your stat only scales the magical part of the damage up, not the original base damage of the weapon. It’s just that it doesn’t scale up a lot as main stats do though.
ps. two corrupted were harmed in making of this screenshot.
Now critical hit dmg according arboreal setup is lower than main attribute weapon normal hit. The descripotion is “Damage scales off base weapon stat of XX” So it makes sance, that FOC builds, which are not synergistic for another wepon would work with gem slot, but it affects maybe elemental part of dmg. I think this should affects main dmg and the % of the gem shoud be counted from scaled dmg. In this state healer can play effective only with life staff and the second wepon slot is just for beauty . So question is why to play effective one weapon healer in game where are 2 weapon slot and the rest of builds are much more playable? There is no balance for healers at all in this case.
It is needed to fix this as soon as possible. It is not minor bug as some bugged NPC from milion quests in game. This bug affects playstyle of every poor guy who is convicted to play healer for the goodness of party or company.
Yeah, I was trying a Paladin build, and the damage didn’t make sense at all.
I do less damage with the gem on, it only split the damage but no scaling.
I submitted a feedback from the game menu.
I hope it’s fixed soon. I want to play my paladin build!
Wenn I Level Up i only see Focus Scaling DMG wit my Life Staff (not my hammer with Aboreal II gem) (but this is only the 3 Points you can commit)
I cant confirm that it scales with the Nature party only. If i put off my Jewelery with 15 Focus, the Base and Nature DMG Part of the Hammer stays the Same… vis-versa
Even to this day this bug is still not fixed and its not even in the known bugs post by the devs, that means they are not aware of it and not working towards a fix.
that video is exactly what I needed, I was going crazy about why I cannot put the arboreal gem in war hammer or axe, definitely a bug imho
EDIT: Alright guys, I found what is cause. Every weapon that has the perk with chain dmg (Chain Fire, Chain Void etc.), you cannot put arboreal gem in and works just fine on every other weapon with no chain perk.
I just reported this on the PTS server as well, but I’m gonna re-copy it here.
What is your character name in New World:
A Swarm of Bees
What server/world/region did you experience your issue on:
The PTS server.
Describe the issue you are experiencing:
The Amber gem still scales on nothing, instead of Focus
Is this a bug or an exploit:
A bug
(if a bug) How did the issue effect your gameplay:
It still makes full-focus heal builds totally unplayable as you can’t deal any reasonable DPS.
(if a bug) Were you able to recover from the issue:
No it’s a long-time flaw in the system
(if a bug) Please include a screenshot or video of the issue that you have experienced:
What are the steps to reproduce the issue as you experienced:
I made a whole video very clearly demonstrating it.
In the beginning I am equipped with a Life Staff with an Amethyst gem in it to convert 50% damage to Void, scaling on INT; and a Void Guantlet with an Amber gem in it to convert 50% damage to Nature, scaling on FOC.
At 300 INT 50 FOC, light attacks with the Void Gauntlet do 498 void and 498 nature damage, as expected. Light attacks with the Life Staff do 260 nature and 444 void damage, where the Void damage is obviously scaling to INT as expected.
However, at 300 FOC 50 INT, I saw a different outcome. Light attacks with the Life Staff do 445 nature and 445 void, as expected. But light attacks with the Void Gauntlet only did 386 void and 386 nature damage. I would have expected that the nature damage of the Void Gauntlet would have scaled in the same way that the Life Staff did when the attributes were reversed as above.
