Just approach the station and watch what your character does. If he/she turns away from the station, exit and move slightly to one side or the other. Re-enter station. If they turn away, exit and do this again. Usually 2 or 3 times and it works and you DON’T need to carry stuff from your storage with you. And no need to filter.
Moving a little works with some of the crafting stations (coincidentally, it actually is just the act of trying again), but from what I can tell it’s a race condition bug. If the station cannot validate the materials quickly enough, you’ll be kicked into “inventory” mode. The speed with which it can validate materials is dependent on two things:
the quantity of materials needed for the item and
the “proximity” of the items, that is, whether or not it needs to do a secondary lookup in your storage. If there are any items at all in your storage related to what you select to craft, it will kick you out (if the station is bugged).
Repositioning yourself actually has no effect whatsoever, it’s just random chance whether or not you’ll hit the race condition. If you’re at a station with few recipes, it’s not likely you’ll hit this. But at a station like weaponsmithing, it’s incredibly likely. You can try 100x and will never be able to craft. My workaround can function even for the weaponsmithing station.
I’d be really interested in a detailed bug breakdown from the devs for what is actually going on here, to see if my guesswork is close. But in the meantime, it is a functioning workaround when you can’t make anything else work.
I filtered to tier 1, which actually showed a blank list. I exit the station, still see a blank list, but remove the filter and VOILA! I’m crafting some silk shoes <3
I found it was a combination of what TacitusArc and Throckmorton said.
It is true that when you can see in the blurry background your character turns AWAY from the station, it’s bugged.
For me retrying or moving didn’t fix it (moving probably doesn’t do anything), but filtering out to Tier 1 items so that the jewelcrafting menu was totally emty, then exit and re-enter the station, fixed it.
I don’t think it depends at all on whether the items are in inventory or storage.
To make it short:
Bugfix=
Step 1: Filtering down to Tier 1
Step 2: Exit and reenter
Step 3: Profit
Edit: on the Outfitter this hasn’t worked out for me yet. Other stations are much smoother though. Now I am trying other tricks that i have accumulated over the last DAYS.
OK I CRAFTED MY FIRST EARRINGS SINCE PATCH 1.04!!!
Look for a starter City to craft it there ( in my case First light) there is low trafficking so my lag was minimal. Therefore the Lag induced part of the bug was weakened.
Sometimes the process has to be repeated, but at least you got more time to craft what you want. Thank you @TacticusArk!!!
Enter the workstation. If you notice (in the blurry background) that your character turns around to face you rather than starts the animation, then you have the bug.
Set the filter to ONLY Tier 1 items.
Exit workstation and reenter. You should see your character now doing the animation.
WITHOUT EXITING, remove the filter or set the filter to what you actually want to do, and craft as normal.
Agreed. This is an annoying bug. I tried repositioning multiple times and eventually got it to work but why? Crafting is a key component to the game, how does this still have bugs after release.
I have expriencied this as well, but for me the cause seems to be high population towns like Windward and Everfall (because this is the only place the bug happens). It is worth noting that latency jumps up 60-100 ms in these towns as well, and the game sometimes starts to look like a power point presentation.
I appreciate the people who have posted work arounds to try to alleviate this issue. However, we shouldn’t have to use work arounds to engage in critical and key components of the game. Some of us are literally playing the game for crafting, or our companies crafters, etc. so we just aren’t playing the game while the developer stays quiet and unresponsive to this post from almost a month ago that is still plaguing people. Then they have the audacity to make it even harder to level crafting skills etc. when there are people who can’t even use the crafting stations. But you know, new content, when current content isn’t even working. I understand all the frustration here, and I hope we’re shown the courtesy of acknowledgment at least.
this pretty much sums up what i’ve been dealing with as well, it’s honestly unbearable and i don’t know why they haven’t done anything about this yet… crafting is a massive part of this game and i actually enjoy it but, i can’t do it because of this bug, i only started experiencing it since 1.0.5, i had no idea it was going on for this long.
I found this didn’t work for me but i took onboard what you posted and tried a few things.
Here is what worked for me.
Step 1. Open crafting, filter to T5 then change sort by “Tier” or “gearscore” or something you DONT have the mats for at the top of the list (even if its unlearned).
Step 2. Close crafting
Step 3. Open crafting again and make sure your character doesn’t turn around (if your character turns around go back to step 2.)
Step 4. clear filter and click on what you want to craft (if your character turns around at this point go back to step 1.)
Step 5. Craft items
I’m so glad you posted your method otherwise I would never have messed around and got it working on my own accord
I still have to spend at least a quadruple amount of time to get what I want. It feels just bad.
One Suggestion for the upcoming patch: FIX IT
One Suggestion for a possible game expansion: Give us Crafting instances
