What is your character name in New World: Kifudancer
-
What server/world did you experience your issue on: Kibu
-
Describe the issue you are experiencing:
When accessing the Outfitter’s Station, and more recently in the last couple of days the Forge and Workshop, the character will spin as if accessing the inventory behind the menu. After selecting something and hitting craft, the menu will just exit without crafting and the character will spin back again. Rarely, originally, on exit, there was also a white-on-black error message saying something like “Crafting attempt invalid” or similar. (I haven’t seen this in a long time, so don’t remember exact wording).
Originally, I could access the Forge or Workshop after a couple of tries and get the crafting animation to hold, although if I selected any armour (other than the shield) in the Forge the character would immediately spin and crafting would fail. Now both stations are virtually unusable, like the Outfitter’s.
I am aware this is a known issue, so my friend (who is on the same server and not having the issue) and I started poking further. On my computer’s end, I opened Task Manager and watched the various performance graphs while playing. No discernible correlation. So we both watched the in-game information provided by the “Show FPS” option.
It turns out, every time you access any crafting station, there is a very fast spike in the time since last response, followed by a second, similar or slightly smaller, spike a moment later. The character spins on the second spike.
We tracked the numbers of the first spike. The numbers are highest on, surprise surprise, the Outfitter’s Station, currently followed by the Workshop, then Forge.
Arcana and Kitchen were roughly even, then the various refining stations were performing best at roughly even levels. This was true for my friend as well. The difference between his and mine is how high the numbers were. I was getting numbers spiking up to 800-1400ms for the Outfitter’s station, while he was getting 300-400ms. I was getting those numbers on the working crafting stations, Kitchen and Arcana. It seemed, aside from the odd exception, anything over 500ms would fail and anything under would succeed.
Occasionally a station would have a higher number when it was first accessed, but would be lower on subsequent attempts.
I repeated testing at various times of day through various cities. The busyness of the time/city had a minor effect on reducing the time since last response, but not enough to render the stations working. I should also note I’m on a very quiet server due at some point for a server merge.

Is this a bug or an exploit: Bug
-
(if a bug) How did the issue effect your gameplay:
Crafting on the Outfitter’s Station, and now Forge and Workshop, is virtually impossible. I love crafting in games, and was keen to level my skills. I’m now very concerned about how this seems to be getting worse. -
(if a bug) Were you able to recover from the issue:
No. I first tried verifying my install via Steam and updating my graphics drivers. More recently, I have also done a clean reinstall (attempting to track down hidden files and delete them before re-installing) and also updated my Windows. No effect whatsoever. As noted above, I also tracked my computer’s performance while playing through my Task Manager, and there didn’t seem to be a correlation. -
(if a bug) Please include a screenshot or video of the issue that you have experienced:
You can see the numbers of the first spike here, as the menu is first being accessed:
The second spike here. Notice the character hasn’t broken animation yet.
And finally, the character spun around behind the menu. Once the character has spun, any attempt at crafting fails.
- What are the steps to reproduce the issue as you experienced: Visit any Outfitter’s Station or Workshop or Forge in any city, at any time, with FPS information enabled. These screenshots were taken in Everfall’s Outfitter Station at roughly 3:30pm AEST 23/11, a busier city at a quiet time of day for my small server.
