Anyone else notice how frequently this basic coding error has shown up?
For those who are not aware there is a basic coding principle with many games where a modifier (i.e. +5% crit) is supposed to calculated by multiplying the intial (starting) value by the % and then adding it to the intial value.
New World frequently has an issue where swaths of game content calculate off of current value.
What does this mean?
Intial value + 1 = 2.
Current value is now 2.
Calculation occurs again.
Current Value + 1 = 3.
The quickest way you can observe this in game is by opening your map and hovering back and forth over any icon on the map.
What is supposed to happen is…
Intial size + mouse interaction = +25% size
but because it calculates off of current size it adds 25% everytime you hover over it. Increasing indefintely. The result is massive icons that go away once you zoom out and the icon sizes reset to their intial value.
IDK what else to say. This is happening with A LOT of stuff and a good amount of it is pretty abusable. If you know how this bad code works…it becomes pretty easy to see all the spots it can be broken/toyed with.
QA should have caught this 100% it is a very basic coding principle.
