My game had started to play a little funky and after using hwmonitor I saw a reason why… CPU specifically was getting insanely hot, like embarassingly hot…
Just wondering if anyones able to keep their PC at a reasonable temperature while playing this game
I just played OW for a bit to see the difference and at max its still 10 degrees Celsius less than I have from NW… I understand it takes more resources to run NW (even at all low settings which I am on)
Any tips would be appreciated… I didnt build the PC myself, couldn’t get a 3080 at the time without it being prebuilt… but it “should” be a decent PC… Im confused if I spent more for a radiator + liquid cooling… theres like 10 fans up in this summa b why its still getting hot. There was a lil dust build up I tried to get out with canned air but it didnt seem to help, though I definitely didnt get the pieces thoroughly clean.
Thanks guys – I really wanna be able to keep playing NW and not worry about my PC dying.
o one last note I have taken off the glass panel and laying it against it which does lower the max temperature but it certainly must cause wear and tear faster without it on
Hello!
There’s a couple of things to check for this, but the first and foremost is the game is pretty demanding of CPU. The second issue is that stock CPU coolers leave a lot to be desired, i was having a similar issue with my 8350 getting hot and going into soft temperature protection mode (The game would drop to 8fps for about 10 seconds or so in EF every once in a while and cpu useage would dip) But in my case it was that the thermal paste was dry and not being effective.
Otherwise the game operates at 70-80 cpu useage most of the time and once i cleaned and replaced the thermal paste the temps dropped back down to 52c and i haven’t had any issues really since, but it has made me work toward replacing my cpu cooler in the very near future because of this (probably liquid cooling)
If you are not comfortable doing this, i highly suggest lots of youtube videos and or finding someone who is comfortable doing it. I’ve replaced a lot of hardware over the years, and long story short i bent pins and took an hour fixing with a coffee straw. 2/10 would not recommend.
So I dont currently run two monitors but when I alt tab the temps are usually 50-70 ~ C but the Max if the glass panel is on will normally be like 90-92 C for Package reading for CPU … each individual seem to be around the same as well
One night the graphics started bending around players as they walked by and I checked my temp and it had maxed at 100 C so I kinda just turned off the system for a bit. GPU never seems to go over 60 C as far as Ive seen 38 C right now just logging into Windsward.
I would reiterate that you need to redo that thermal paste, clean that heatsink up and make sure there’s no dust lodged anywhere in it. maybe get a new and or bigger cooler and i would investigate cooling options. There are a lot of resources available for enhancing cooling, making sure that your fans follow a good air throughput. Usually, front fans facing in, rear fans out and top fans up.
For cooling options there are very inexpensive quality coolers that will drastically reduce operating temperatures. I’ve seen some on amazon for under $50.
In any case, 100c is way, way above operating temperatures and will cause damage.
