Otherwise tey could just let us regulate the transparency of the official map. It would be enought for me personally. Because the compass is terribly not comfortable to use.
At the moment, Overwolf add-on is allowed. AGS have allowed it on the understanding that it doesn’t show anything you wouldn’t be getting shown on your compass (i.e. it will only show nodes if you can track them and are close enough).
If it comes to their attention that Overwolf have lied about this and are showing things beyond that, they reserve the right to withdraw permission. At that point, they’d probably add Overwolf to EAC to stop it from working (and ban anyone who works around that).
as i understand its allowed to but im really confused…
In 1 point he says it breaks Rules. ← so not allowsed
Other point he says “we want ban you if you use it” ← so its allowed?
It’s really not that ground breaking of an add on. Sure it will help you find nodes the first few times, but unless you are brain dead, you’ll just memorize the paths anyways and not really look at it anymore, (like they seem to be afraid everyone will be doing).
I was just looking at resource map on another monitor before that added the mini map.
I think the fear is that they dont want it making paths for you to follow (fastest route, etc), as well as giving up other players locations for pvp sake.
Because Minimaps do not show resources. They have static icons on them which designate places where a resource may be. If it is really there, the minimap does not know. Most of the confusion probably stems from the fact that the download link said the minimap would “track” resources (which was poorly worded) and it never did that.
So whenever the devs say “It may not show resources” they mean it may not pull data from the game to know if a resource is there or not, and then show an icon on the map if it is there and no icon if it is not there.
Once this is understood, all the previous statements suddenly miraculously make sense. But there are still people who deny that it is like that.
Must have skipped thaf part but I didn’t read all addons are fine. I understood Overwolf as a software is allowed but the minimap addons must abide by the rules.
If the current add-ons break the rules, it means the person who created them must tweak the add-on to respect that decision or it would get its users problems
The resources icons aren’t being pulled from somewhere, the current solution would be just removing that from the add-on and would basically not violate anything.
Just use the mini map addons offered at Overwolf. Doesn’t matter what they do or not, they stated they haven’t banned anyone for using the minimap and I am sure they won’t do so in the future.
ChiasaChan has interpreted it to mean all addons are ok if they use static icons
Jheon and many others see that any addon that breaks rule 3 “showing resources not via the API” is not and must be tweaked or removed.
Not really, I was answering your previos reply. Let me paste it here so I don’t lose the thread
My bad if I didn’t understand what you meant,
From the dev post I read their intention is not having resources be shown if your level on the skill is not high enough.
I agree there is no way to track if the resource is there or not without diving into the game data, which is why most minimaps I see have a static icon where the resource is (in case is not taken) or will appear (In case it was taken) and this is exactly what the devs are pointing out to not be allowed.
The logical result to the above is: currently, a map with unlocked resources, indifferently if they are from in game data or a static image, makes it break the rules
