I hate to say it but it is the more sound financial/business decision even if it’s more of a punch in face to their most dedicated and loyal players.
Either make a decision that upsets potential returning players that already left the game or have yet to play the game? Or upset the playerbase that never left the game despite a very rocky start?
As “legacy” players we kept with the game through a really rough time. We kinda concentrated down into a self selected group of people that will stick with the game regardless of what happens haha.
Not sure if they went to that level of thought haha. Besides I do really think the devs are passionate and love hearing them talk about the game even if we are living with this decision unfortunately.
Remember it’s still early. What happens with FSS and the greater community is still up in the air.
Go into the bug forum. People have tons of “quest” items stuck in their inventory, the ags devs confirmed they have no way to remove items from the players inventorys.
Now tell me how they removed all the duped items and gold?
Truth is it was all disseminated through the auction house immediately and not tracked. That is why no one wants to be merged into legacy.
I guarantee you, and you can quote me on this, the day they merge FSS players into legacy is the day the game dies. People say it a lot, but to outright lie to your players, among all the other shitty decisions, is the ultimate betrayal. All the FSS players will leave. And now amount of another fresh start promises will matter because everyone will remember being lied to.
Legacy is dead. Fresh start worlds are this games only hope. I say this as a player who has 2 legacy characters BIS’ed out. I literally only log in to them if something needs to be acquired like the turkey food trophy. 99% of my time is on FSS and it is WAY better.
I have 3 level 60s on different fresh start servers. Right now there is very minor differences between fresh start and legacy, even in the economies. You’re huffing the copium. But that’s ok
The FSS was an absolutely disaster. It was a worse domination and unbalanced mess than anything ever seen since the launch of the game.
For some reason a bunch of veteran players wanted to go to the servers to “smash noobs”. They made super companies and dominated the FSS servers.
They out leveled and out geared all the new players and smashed them in wars winning in under 5 minutes in many cases. I saw players with 100+ kill wars. All these new players then quit the game. This is why.
Some people believe that legacy is somehow tainted by past dupes, but even a casual like me is almost at gold cap now. The server mules are currently far more of a negative impact on server economy. (Thank you to AGS for the 30 server lock!)
I think AGS made a mistake planning to keep RTA servers alive after the event, and made a mistake promising FSS would never merge. I don’t see any outcome where the servers are permanently split, but since they made that promise they should keep it. At least as long as possible.
A better reason for FSS was people wanting the experience of a blank slate and upgrading towns, and all the lowbie pvp and such. Adding periodic FSS events without the promise of never merging would probably be the best future choice.
Cause FSS are pure, delicate, and pristine and full of fairies and unicorns. And legacy is full of tainted no life cheaters with more duped gold than Elon Musk. At least that is what some people will have you believe.
Because of an illusion fairytale that Fresh Start is somehow an innocent version of the game that’s magically immune to cheaters, exploits, territory sovereignty, bots, dupes, everything that happened day 1 to Nov 2.
Well since they wanted the “day 1” experience must also mean FSS shouldn’t get merges until the populations are near dead. Yeh know to keep the authentic “Fresh” feel.
I’m telling you, they are talking out of both sides of their mouth. They claim to have removed all duped items and gold from the economy. But TO THIS DAY they still cannot remove items from people inventory who report the bugged stuff sitting there.
I’m simply asking, if they do not have the ability TODAY to remove stuff from peoples inventory, why should we believe they removed all the duped items?
My 2 cents- I play on both Legacy and Fresh Start, with over 3k hours. Everything is pretty much the same, except the player curve and economy are farther behind on Fresh Start. To be fair though, the economies are really ramping up on Fresh Start, it actually reminds me of about 6 months into the games launch (at least on my Fresh start server), rather than just 1 month in.
I’m one slot away from full BIS on Fresh Start, you could transfer me to legacy today it wouldn’t bother me one bit. But many other players don’t feel the same way. Many players have this feeling that legacy is “tainted” somehow, and are anxious about it. I have to respect that opinion (even if I don’t agree with it).
The most compelling reason to keep Fresh Start servers separate for now? The economy and player curve is still behind legacy. In 6 months? They will likely be even/very close to even. The longer FSS continues, the less valid the non transfer argument becomes, at least that’s my take.
