Can we finally revisit Maelstrom

it;s been looked at since last year

Agreed, maelstrom shouldn’t mess with the aim of AoE abilities and definitely should not absorb friendly projectiles, like ok, keep the immunity against enemy AoE but it should absolutely NOT mess with people aiming.

Its just frustrating honestly.

Bump until phalanx is removed.

Even if you change it to “decrease damage taken from ranged abilities”, it would still be an overpowered skill.

From my understanding, Maelstorm eating friendly projectiles is actually a bug. The fix is a work in progress.

That is honestly great to know!

What about maelstrom messing with AoE Skills aiming?
Is this a bug or is intended?
Because its really frustrating trying to land a pillar of fire or a sacred ground just to see it placed anywhere but where i wanted.

I love having my 35s CD Beacon thrown into the abyss because the person I’m trying to heal with it pops a maelstrom while the projectile is mid flight.

it’s still not fixed

The sad thing is… That while the ability says it absorbs projectiles, it was never this prevalent before the January 2022 patch. It slowly got worse and began eating everything.

Malestrom has:

  1. Pure AOE damage on any number of targets
  2. Displacement
  3. Interrupt
  4. Absorbs projectiles
  5. Grit
  6. 220% (110%x2) weapon damage

Why are there abilities with this many attributes?

For reference, OG entomb got hit with the largest nerf to an ability I have ever seen. Why? Because it had to many attributes:

  1. 170% aoe damage (way smaller area than malestrom)
  2. Displacement
  3. Invulnerability
  4. Can be healed while inside
  5. Armor/cleanse buffs from passives

What did the entomb nerf do? The following:

  • Reduced health of the Tomb to 50% of players max health.
  • Reduced damage of breakout burst attack from 168% to 70%. <----
  • Fixed an issue where invulnerability on Entomb could be removed while the Tomb was still active.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to move while Entombed after dying.

Malestrom should not do a ton of pure AOE damage and absorb projectiles so easily. One or the other. However, since most people play melee, it is understandable that their abilities have this many attributes. Thus, a good start may be to replace the projectile absorb with a fortify buff, reduce the damage, or only apply the absorb on the first spin.
