Can we finally revisit Maelstrom

as a healer I literally have to time my heals in accordance with maelstrom

That is honestly great to know!

What about maelstrom messing with AoE Skills aiming?
Is this a bug or is intended?
Because its really frustrating trying to land a pillar of fire or a sacred ground just to see it placed anywhere but where i wanted.

I love having my 35s CD Beacon thrown into the abyss because the person I’m trying to heal with it pops a maelstrom while the projectile is mid flight.

it’s still not fixed

The sad thing is… That while the ability says it absorbs projectiles, it was never this prevalent before the January 2022 patch. It slowly got worse and began eating everything.

Malestrom has:

  1. Pure AOE damage on any number of targets
  2. Displacement
  3. Interrupt
  4. Absorbs projectiles
  5. Grit
  6. 220% (110%x2) weapon damage

Why are there abilities with this many attributes?

For reference, OG entomb got hit with the largest nerf to an ability I have ever seen. Why? Because it had to many attributes:

  1. 170% aoe damage (way smaller area than malestrom)
  2. Displacement
  3. Invulnerability
  4. Can be healed while inside
  5. Armor/cleanse buffs from passives

What did the entomb nerf do? The following:

  • Reduced health of the Tomb to 50% of players max health.
  • Reduced damage of breakout burst attack from 168% to 70%. <----
  • Fixed an issue where invulnerability on Entomb could be removed while the Tomb was still active.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to move while Entombed after dying.

Malestrom should not do a ton of pure AOE damage and absorb projectiles so easily. One or the other. However, since most people play melee, it is understandable that their abilities have this many attributes. Thus, a good start may be to replace the projectile absorb with a fortify buff, reduce the damage, or only apply the absorb on the first spin.

As a maelstrom user, it’s so annoying. My teammates always say “You deleted my ability!” then I have to say sorry for something that just shouldn’t be in the game. Come on. Please fix this issue already.

Technically it does say “projectiles” and not “enemy projectiles” so I could go either way on this.
My main build is a bruiser and I’ve just gotten used to timing it so that I’m not eating other team members abilities and only using it once we’ve balled up a bunch of enemies and everyone else has thrown their stuff at it.

With a bit of coordination the issue is pretty minimal, and it’s really a decent way to finish off people/mobs since it doesn’t require aim to land it, so it should come LAST not early in your combo.

Removing the friendly projectile eating amounts to a GA buff, which I’m sure the vast majority of whiners would not support if you phrased it that way, since they have constant “reasons” for nerfing GA every single patch, even after massive nerfs like the latest one.

Quite often the orb that was eaten, was going to heal the guy swinging a Greataxe.

I can think of lots of people who’d rather he didn’t get healed.

Why would a teammate nerf another teammate like this intentionally. Whoever thinks it should affect teammates is trolling.
