I completely agree. I never had a problem with any of the taxes except the Property Tax. But, then things were explained to me about how they work, and how you can choose to not pay it. You’d not have use of your house, but there are no back taxes for when you start paying them again.
So, my point is, we have the tools to fight the high tax rates. I’m not rich enough to afford a house yet, and I want to get my standing up to get the biggest house for my first “half price” purchase. But, when I do, and I’ll probably get 3 of them, I will simply turn off paying taxes if a Company decides they want to gouge us with taxes.
As for everything else, I moved all of my inventory from Brightwood to Monarch’s Bluff yesterday on my server. The Company that controls Brightwood is my faction, so I obviously can’t fight them in a war. But, they insist on having crazy high taxes. So, I’m going to be crafting in Monarch’s Bluff until further notice. Monarch’s Bluff has good crafting and refining rates, is in my faction, and I have a lot of standing there, so I can do my thing relatively cheap.
When I have stuff to sell, I’m bringing it all to Windward. Windward has the best trading taxes that beat my standing and faction bonuses in any other settlement even though Windward is not controlled by my faction.
At least this was how it was yesterday. In general, I don’t expect rates to be yo yo’ing all over the place. Though I am aware that at some point rates may change, and I’ll have to move my crafting and trading to other settlements.
I think more and more people will start to realize they can actually do something about the high taxes and the Companies that are trying to take everyone’s money will realize they won’t be able to do it long term and will either have to give up the territory or start playing differently.
And if they don’t? It ends up being no skin off my nose, because it just means I won’t craft there. I can still get all of the faction and standing quest bonuses without needing to pay taxes.
