I watched their Laza video and the time from the run in the video was the same I achieved as a Heavy Armor Tank with a random group. I won’t deny that tanking in light armor works, but what a light armor tank achieves with DPS for the group/time is the same as the contribution of a heavy armor tank that groups the mobs well.
So each as he has fun, because both tanks have the same impact…
BtW, it is a bit cringe if you constantly emphasize that you are the only one with an understanding of the game…
also, I’m not an expert and could be 10000% wrong BUT
I had a friend try the light tank build and it was a disaster…gave it two week trial. From their perspective (not sure if true), it required particular group comps. If that is the case, SNS traditional build has probably more of a place than light build does.
Sounds to me like light builds are like fury warriors in classic wow. Top players run it with top performing groups, because that is the place it fits (which what % of player base is running meta level speed runs? probably small). Fury MT was mostly viable when bosses died in under a minute otherwise healers couldn’t sustain the healing required to keep them alive. Dummy fury MTs who ran with the usual crowd of raids got slapped, and were a detriment.
if the Dev’s wanted the holy trinity why didn’t they implement the traditional holy trinity class system ?
Matter of fact, we have no class system.
The Dev’s left it up to us, the player base to make it work.
and guess what
WE DID !!!
okay so what you’re saying is light tanking takes progression and time investment both in gear and mechanical knowledge to perform effectively and can’t be rushed by just simply putting on a “tank set"
man all these Trinity purists sound entitled and lazy wanting to diminish the “time and effort” these light tanks put into their character and want to diminish their journey, it’s just as bad as those who ask for scaling in pvp
sry couldn’t reist. but to your point about scripted yes scripting is bad same reason after few clears ff14 raids become snore for me.
I think if they introduced randomness to the fight timeline night be interesting I have no doubt the best among you prolly can read a mobs telegraphs and incoming attacks by the angle and inflection of the elbow joint before the attack executes, that’s the kind of gaming and time investment that deserves to be rewarded and recognized imo
The question I’d have is - what is the downside of having both methods of play? I don’t see a world where light armor tank will win out against SNS to the point of SNS never having a place in groups. I think many meta videos run it because its not only effective, but they want to show unique content and builds. I think they could do an SNS build that is just as effective.
I think people misinterpret meta videos, and perhaps content creators have to be more cautious about the impact their videos have on the game. For whatever reason, people will see the top speed run and then somehow come up with a narrative that the comp and builds in the video is the only way to play. That is rarely the case.
Its not as effective. The speed runners run the most effective builds.
The same player in both builds will deal more damage and generate better threat while being able to invest in better perks due to not needingbthreat modifying perks heavy con tanks need.
By the existence of a light tank functioning it allows a group using it a distinct advantage with very little difference in risk reward. I.e. everyone right now should be pushing lower con and lower armor because there really isnt a lot of benefit to the heavy con tank.
This assumes all things are equal other than the tanks armor class.
Can you select it at character creation, or say at level 10, 20, etc…?
No, you can not.
Selecting it group finder is just to define the role you are willing to play.
What it doesn’t do is DEFINE US AS A CLASS.
but as you said, specific builds. Ever run those builds? they get so, so so boring so so fast. That is the downside to light armor builds - your entire group has to build around you.
Also, I think the root issue, which I did thread a while ago, is that melee dps are too good in pve due to their debuffs, CC capabilities, passive defenses and sustain, and high damage. They have the entire toolkit with no downsides. I think if they made mobs less immune to CC, and smarter AI…it would make m10s more interesting. Right now they are just an easy mode slog because you stack melee and nullify all the mechanics.
Classes are irrelevant, multiple classes in multiple games can do multiple things (such as a Druid from WoW for instance, can play… Tank/Heals/Ranged dps and Melee dps)
The roles are whats important to focus on here, so yeah the “holy trinity” you are mentioning refers to the role of a Tank, Healer and Damage… not any specific “class”
So its pretty obvious New World is utilizing the “Holy Trinity” system considering… again… its literally built into the group finder in game.
That’s the whole point. HIGH RISK.
Play your heavy clunky tank if you want. Stop trying to force your way on others.
Besides, what’s it of concern to you how me and my friends speed through mutes.
I certainly wouldn’t light tank for a group of pugs, that would be suicide
Won’t you get one shot or, almost one shot, in light armor?
When I do dungeons, I normally wear fully warded medium armor with resistance gems in 6 pieces. I typically have 9k to 10k health, and I can die in 1 hit from certain bosses, and 2 hits from certain mobs.
Maybe you need to use certain weapons with fortify to survive?
If that’s the case, then fortify + light armor could probably use a balance pass.
You can start it pretty early if gear is available on the market… i light tanked tempest and dynasty with spear/rapier on my 2nd character starting at 525gs, but I knew to look for full ward and fortifying perforate
as mainly a PvPer I mainly just here w some popcorn watching actual gamers (light tank players) destroy the arguments progression grinder purists (Trinity purists) make against pvp all day.
mainly cause I just want to see skilled gameplay get rewards and recognition for time and effort and not the slobs who mindlessly put thousands of hours of time in a game and never learn anything but expect the best rewards.
ya know your classic gray vs gold parse d**k measuring thread
I responded to your other comment also, but gonna reiterate here… as long as you know the perks to look for and you know dungeon mechanics, you can light tank as early as 525 gs. Just need full ward and a way to give yourself fortifies
Holy Trinity was one of those last minute additions to the game, and to their credit, I think it’s in a really great spot right now.
You don’t need any of those roles to start a group with group finder, you can actually customize the group roles you’re looking for.
As it stands, the holy trinity works well in the game, is easily recognized by all, and content works well with it.
However, it’s not required, and I think a lot of people have a big issue with that for reasons they can’t seem to put into words other than by saying things like “broken game!”.
The game was, by no means, built for the holy trinity. The life staff only had 2 (out of 6) healing abilities until March 2021 (6 months before launch!). I think carnelians weren’t added until April 2021. That doesn’t mean the classic MMORPG group doesn’t have a place in New World, but it also shouldn’t be the only way to approach things.
