Many of us participate actively in discussions related to the topics of balance. And while we may all have good ideas and strong opinions. It has become clear to me that our perspectives differ greatly.
Some talk about balance from a war perspective
Others talk about balance from an OPR perspective
Then others consider PvE while others disregard the PvE factors entirely.
This is why there is so much confusion and so much disagreement.
Someone calls the musket OP. But in a war it may be the most useless weapon in the game, etc.
Me personally. I dont think war should be the ‘main’ factor to consider when balancing weapons for pvp. I think war should be balanced by war specific consumables and mechanics. Like siege weapons and respawns etc etc.
Just as OPR have so many opr specific elements.
Then we are left with open world and arena. Logically the only 2 areas where true balance is a thing.
As we all know arena is absolutely ruled by: ig/bb x2 and a VG/ls. They will beat every other combo if played correctly.
However i do also not think the game should be balanced for 3v3 since by its nature will never be truly balanced and a meta build will always rule. Since it is a small map with no x-factors.
I am not saying i have the solution i just want to open up the discussion to hear all the different perspectives on this topic.
Here is my opinion. And just remember that is all that is. My opinion: i don’t think NW is a successfully ‘rock, paper, scissors’ game. A true RPS game means every class or weapon has the capability to beat each other because the combat mechanics revolve around a rps decision-making structure.
A great example here is games like ‘naraka bladepoint’ ‘street fighter’ ‘tekken’ etc.
New world used to have 3 activities that used stamina. Sprinting, blocking and dodging. When they removed sprinting they removed the true RPS structure of combat and moved more in the direction of ‘class counters’ such as games like overwatch or league of legends.
Where one weapon is created to counter another weapon. And so the games pvp is built around team play and careful team composition. Half the battle is choosing the right team composition. This is great for wars and arena. But terrible for solo play and OPR since you can’t influence the team composition in any way.
It also creates so much frustration since many weapons cannot kill each other.
Melee cannot kill ranged. Pure damage cannot kill healers. Nobody can solo kill a tank. Etc etc.
In my opinion i wish new world was more of a RPS game where in solo fights every weapon had the capability to beat each other. Rather than being a ‘counter’ style game.
