With server merges happening there are people who now have not one, but two characters to play with on one server.
This is an unintended consequence of merging servers, but it does create a somewhat unfair situation where some people have alts, and some don’t. I saw people specifically coming to my server to make new characters so that when their server merged with mine they would have two playable characters on that server. Kudos to them!
Can I have an alt too, please?
With that in mind, I’d like the ability at some point (doesn’t need to be soon) to make an alt character as well that I can have on the server I call home. It would be great if they could also share storage (if possible).
Now, I understand not every likes, wants or needs alt. I like them because I can give my characters a real sense of identity “this is my healer” or “this is my fire mage” and enjoy focusing on those characters without needing to pay anything to keep switching them up.
I’d even love an alt that I kit out just for harvesting!
I think their rationale behind not allowing alts was because you had the ability to turn your character into anything. Kinda making the point of alts “pointless”. People still want their alts though and the only other way you can have alts on the same server is buying another copy of the game. Which you know, is kind of a big ask. At this stage, they should honestly just let people create alts. There’s enough of them.
Agreed. I see @Khanzy’s point and agree too that people still want their alts. Alts drive the playerbase too, because then you have veteran players questing the same areas as new players.
One issue though, they need to make double XP the actual XP. Levelling an alt in another region is painfully slow currently. I expect it to take time, but that amount of time is currently excessive. Yes to alts, and bump that XP!
Unfortunately, it has the unintended effect of making a bot’s job twice as easy. I wouldn’t be opposed to faster levelling honestly. But I see what they might be concerned about.
I had the same experience, folks that were transferred to my server came to the server first to make alts. I attempted to make an alt on the server being transferred and was not able to. This rubs me the wrong way.
Alts do a number of things.
Sell more cosmetics through the cash store: Many folks who create alts do so to fit a specific role. In ESO I have a dedicated farming toon, decked out to farm. I have dedicated healers, dedicated DPS, ranged and melee, etc. Each has their own unique name (obviously), an outfit to theme with their role, mounts to theme with their role, non combat pets to theme wtih their role, and even unique personalities (in ESO you can assign a personality to your toons). The more alts I create, the more outfits/mounts/pets/personalities/cosmetics I spend money on.
Adds account time played (good for investors) by reusing the same content. You get more mileage out of existing assets in game by folks who use alt characters because they replay through much of it. This helps new players as well because you get veteran players roaming around in low level areas/dungeons etc.
Increased game exploration by the player base. If I have a dedicated tank, I am more likely to tank a dungeon/invasion/world boss. If I have a dedicated healer, same applies. Right now changing gear, paying gold twice to move stats around, transmogging my toon to fit the role (yes I do this every time) is a bit of a chore. Alts would remedy this, and this helps to reduce the tank/healer strain every MMORPG feels (also increasing group content to 5 or 6 DPS per tank/healer helps with this).
Due to the heavy grind of the game in general, there might need to be some kind of concession by the devs to expedite leveling, expertise, professions etc for alt characters. Not to the point of making leveling an alt trivial, but at the same time not like starting a new account. Maybe shared assets like gear, gold. I would leave inventories alone, but maybe create a bank where you can unload your shared stuff into so that alts can all access them.
At the end of the day, alts simply give another reason to play the game daily.
A megacompany on one faction can have alts in another faction and dominate a map making it look like the map is balanced, but it’s one group of people and then imagine someone owning all towns and receiving all tax revenue what they would do with that.
This is already happening. Should be against TOS. If you have an alt they have to be the same faction.
What’s the point? If all You need to change from “healer” to “fire mage” is change your equipment, and respec the attribute points. With current system of gameplay in New World the whole idea of alt characters is pointless. You would need first to propose a highly safe way to change this system, before even thinking about any alts.
At this moment, in current New world game play system, there is totally NO SENSE for alt character on the same server. It’s just a waste of slot.
Oh, by the way, and that proposition, to make all characters share storage. Did You even think for a second, what will be the purpose of house box then? And what would happen with people who spend hundred of hours to get it themselves?
Like I said in another topic, guys stop making ideas only good for few people. Start think bigger, there is much bigger picture, than only the end of your nose.
For people in areas such as Australia that now only have one server for the region, We need Alts. I’ve got some friends that are keen to play once they sort stuff IRL, but since I’ve got a character on the only active server already, I can’t play the “New Character Experience” with them. The Devs keep making changes to the levelling experience to make it better, but I can only do that by playing on a US server and hoping the Lag Gods don’t punish me for it (spoiler: they do).
I get the issue of having two character on the same server in different factions, but I’m sure there’s a way to make it so the second character is locked to the same faction, and faction change affects both characters on the same cooldown.
Shared storage would be nice as mentioned above, but that’s not as important.
New World is now an “MMO” that I can’t play with my friends unless my lvl 60 runs round with the lvl 10’s one shotting everything. How is that fun for either party??
I took care of your concerns before you posted. Please read through all the posts.
Storage does not need to be shared, but there would need to be some kind of central bank created so one could pass money/items from one alt to another.
There is literally ZERO negatives for allowing alts…well, except server side data storage, but something tells me Amazon can handle that.
Not for me. I love every character I create. In fact one of the things I hate about new world is that my character is a jack of all trades, just like everyone else. Nothing unique about him.
Because I don’t want to have to keep switching and changing. I already mentioned this in my post above.
Either way, it’s up to the devs, but it is a bizarre situation currently where some players now have alts (albeit unintended), and others don’t have that option.
If it helps, I would pay for an alt or alts.
As someone else said they should be the same faction as the main character.
