The idea of locking a server only because there is some queue in the prime hours is so stupid when whole game has below 20k population! Meanwhile same sever has around 1k online for 20 hours of the day. What about instead of locking server just have a temporary server size increase in prime time for a few hours then it automatically goes back to normal after online pop drops below a certain threshold. Something like overclocking, isn’t that possible?
They should really just merge all servers in a region down to one server for the region. That would be the last merge needed, and then disallow transferring into or out of that server.
The pattern so far has been (1) servers die → (2) merge servers → (3) watch them die too
Just stop wasting time and merge them all together. They are all going to die separately anyway for reasons AGS never addressed.
No idea what to do about players with multiple characters, especially in multiple factions though. Their game model never really supported alts on the same server or character transfers. But some players have had same-server alts due to server merges, and AGS hasn’t addressed that, so no reason to suddenly care now.
I think they tried increasing server sizes early on, but it didn’t go well. There were server stability issues.
They shouldn’t lock servers. It ends up killing that server if they leave the lock on too long. People will transfer to a different server.
There is no reason to lock them ever. If there is a queue, wait or go to a low pop server.
