@Ziack7 This is not true, please note I cannot be on all forum topics at one time, we attempt to engage as much as possible with our community, fortunately for me, I have been getting some great insight and feedback here by viewing what some of the community members think about this specific topic. I assure you we are dedicated to engaging on all levels.
Clearly you’ve never seen Monster Hunter haha.
Note I did say Moderator(s). not you specifically. Seeming how you are active now, perhaps you could then make your way over to some of the posts with several thousand views and contribute your thoughts there, as that is what I am referring to. Those popular topics never see a moderator reply, it’s not speculation, it’s fact.
My point was not that Moderators need to be on every topic at every moment, it’s that it would be nice to see them on the more spoken about topics, instead of these niche topics about particular weapon skins.
Would love to see you on some of them
Something else that may surprise you… In history people couldnt heal others with life staffs either. They also couldnt cast icey storm spells! GASP
Gasp, it’s almost like we can have fantasy weapons and magic while still remaining committed to having a consistent art style.
What exactly is your problem with having huge weapons? it’s bad ass. It’s really bizarre to not even PLAY a weapon because it’s… too big? If they need to fix anything with Great Axe, it’s how ridiculous it’s left click tracking is and how it seemingly floats light roll distance across the ground to catch up to people.
Because they’re completely inconsistent with the game’s art style. Everything else has a grounded feel to it. The swords, bows, muskets, armor, etc all look pretty close to their historical counterparts and look like weapons humans would actually use in combat. Even the magical weapons look like something that could actually be wielded by a human.
Basically the game is pretty well rooted in low fantasy.
But then you look at the war hammer and great axe. Neither design has any grounding in anything that ever existed. They’re pulled straight from anime and ComicCon.
If we’re going to have a war hammer than weighs over 2,000 pounds, then why can’t I have a spear that’s twenty feet long? Or a massive ten foot long sword that I wield in one hand while wearing my chain mail bikini that is as protective as full plate?
The art style of a game communicates things to the players and helps set their expectations. Because of NW’s art style, I don’t expect to see elves riding griffins or to be fighting orcs riding massive dire wolves.
But then there’s these two weapons. They just don’t fit and it’s distracting.
If we’re playing Monster Hunter, WoW, or Final Fantasy, then I have no issue with comically oversized weapons. Those games have a much different feel and those weapon styles fit.
It would be no different than if a game like Call of Duty let you run around firing an M2 Browning while aiming down the sights or on full auto. It completely breaks the verisimilitude of the game.
Have you noticed how the hammer head sits on your buttocks? It’s not 2000 pound, more like 450 pounds, but that’s still something you can’t carry, can’t swing overhead, and can’t move either. But assume there’s some iron fairy magic lifting it for you, it still -looks- ridiculous having it hang there. It just doesn’t fit there and as others have said repeatedly, it’s an inconsistent art style.
Look at other games, WOW and FF XIV if you like. You know instinctively what new weapons will look like. Given the one handers, the staves and the spear, would you be able to guess what great axe and warhammer would look like for New World?
One more item: The guys designing the looks of the weaponry are artists and designers and the guys fixing the click tracking and weapon swap troubles are developers. That’s two very different skill sets. Pretty sure you can’t move the man power from one department to the other.
Considering hatchets are very small i’ll agree with you. All weapons looks realistic except those two, they are like 15-25% bigger than suposed to be.
What’s so bizarre about not wanting to play an oversized, comic-styled weapon? You’d be surprised if I told you the reasons why I don’t play with certain weapons or refuse to use certain skills.
It’s a matter of style. I’m a “style over substance” type of player and due to that I refuse to use them, no matter how good they are.
In addition they don’t even remotely fit with New World’s general artistic style. The same goes for various weapon skills, e.g. the rapier’s “Fléche” skill, the sword’s group damage buff or various skills from the greataxe or hammer.
No, they’re more like 15-25x as big as they should be. If you took the hammer you’d use to hang a picture on the wall and stuck it on longer handle, that would be the approximate size of a real war hammer.
The great axe is closer to reality, but still a few times too large and no war axe would have a double head like that. It just adds weight and makes the hammer harder to swing without adding any benefits.
In fact, both weapons would have something like a spike or hook on the opposite end. Some war hammers would have the hammer head, a hook on the opposite side and a spike on top letting the users adapt to combat.
This could have been made into some interesting abilities. The hook could have been the knockdown or a grab. And the spike could be a faster, but weaker, armor piercing/rending attack.
As for the war hammer, if they wanted to keep the slam knockdown, it would have been a lot cooler if the war hammer magically grew in size as you swung it to deliver the shockwave.
While I would not strive for 100% realism, I find them both at a size similar to Asian Fantasy - which is just weird for the context we have here. Keep them at a certain size, certainly, but this is just way too large
I really dislike the look of the hammers. Just way too large.
I’d love to try it out but the ridiculous size just puts me off completely
I’m unable to use either of these weapons because they look so out of place with the rest of the world. To me, aesthetics is what sparked interrest in New World and only a few things have been completely off this far, the size of the warhammer and Great axes, and that rainbow lion everyone had in the Beta…
You’ve never set ONE FOOT into Ebonscale Reach, and it clearly shows.
I’m in Ebonscale now. And I don’t see a single comically oversized anime weapon
@Tomius We appreciate your feedback and this is the reason we compiled the reports and passed them on to our team. Hopefully, in the future, something can be done for these two items as our team is constantly looking to improve New World so please be on the lookout.
@Huruh We completely understand being put of certain weapons. Our team is looking closely at this and discussing their options and hopefully, we will see an improvement for the Great Axe and Warhammer so they feel less out of place and better equipped for our players.
Don’t have to look too closely, the war hammer is visible from space
