Cannot bind certain keys after flutes and lutes patch , keybindings are bugged , when I attempt to bind or reassign a key it will not allow it and says it cannot be done , I have been using this setup since day one and it didn’t have any issue till after that patch . I am left handed and can’t play if I can’t reset the keys , thanks .

I’m sorry to hear about you having problems while tryung to bind keys after the update. I can understand how this can be quite frustrating!

In the inforamtion you provided, you wrote that you got some kind of message from the game when trying to do this. Could you please screenshot it and paste it on a reply to this post? Thanks in advance!

Additionally, A couple troubleshooting steps you can try are to, first, Verify Files Integrity
In order to to that, go to your Steam Library and Right Click on the New World Title > Properties > Go to the Local Files Section > Then run the “Verify integrity of game files” check. If this does not work, please reinstall the game and check if it solves the issue.

Please do make sure to attach the screenshots in a reply, as that can help us a lot with trying to solve your situation!

In the meantime, as I don’t have exact information as to why this is happening, I’ll go right ahead and escalate this to the Dev team so i can get further information on this issue!

I did a file check and a fresh install and it hasn’t changed , the bug still remains , others have also encountered this issue and are also left handed and use the same keyboard set up , thanks . For us left handed people this makes it almost impossible to play because we have the mouse in our left hands …

In this case, as this issue is not a known issue, I’m going to need you to please Contact Us so that our colleagues can help you raise this a web ticket in order to investigate this issue further. They may ask for your game’s logs and DxDiag so they can investigate your particular situation.

Instructions for generating a DXdiag : Open and run DxDiag.exe 2 (Open and run DxDiag.exe). Feel free to use a pastebin file for the logs, just paste the file’s link to a response and i’ll be able to check it.

Instructions for finding the in-game logs:

1. Press Windows+R on the keyboard, type %appdata% and press enter.
2. Open the most recent file from this folder: /AppData/local/AGS/LogBackups.
3. Paste the contents of the file into your message. Feel free to use a pastebin file for the logs, just paste the file’s link to a response and i’ll be able to check it.

Hopefully they’ll be able to come up with a solution to your issue ASAP

For anyone having issues binding "DEL" "END" and/or "PgDn" keys

I know some people are having issues binding due to getting the “key_reserved_for_blah” error. You just need to do something like this (I bound them to my special weapons attacks, for example: [Maps] Hope this helps.

I am having the same issue and the file that is called “rebindings” looks like this:

I am not sure what to do from this point. As an aside, the key binding that I was trying to rebind was move forward (along with all of the other movement keys).

I have uninstalled and re-installed the game but I still show the word “Hold” next to the keys I would like to re-bind and I am unable to switch the bindings (I get the error message "Reserved for @ui_reserved_binding_ui_nav_etc etc which cannot be unbound)

Same , I have given up …nothing works and I don’t want to mess around with files and all that crap I will either get banned or corrupt the game and have to keep reinstalling it a million times …oh well…I wanted to try the new changes but I can’t …

I put a ticket in on this and they came back and said the directional arrows are unavailable to bind as movement keys…which makes absolutely no sense as that is how I have had them bound since day one. (I made the mistake of experimenting with a change and now cannot switch back!)

I can’t play the game with WASD as my directional keys.

Same , I’m left handed , can’t even play now …they just never leave shit alone , always more bugs any time they do anything , guess I will extend my break until they decide to fix it …Also why the hell would they make the directional keys unavailable for movement when so many people use them ??

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with modifying the keybindings. Please note there is one more thing you can try out before submitting a support ticket as suggested by @distantefix:

***Before you proceed, DO NOT modify anything besides what is specifically listed and in the specific file listed to avoid further damaging your game files.
Some players have fixed this by manually editing the following game file:
%AppData%\AGS\New World\rebindings.xml

In order to do so, Right Click and open the file with notepad then change the bind in quotes.

Cannot bind arrow keys as movement keys

I am posting this as a bug as I was able to bind my directional arrow keys as movement keys when I started playing this game some 1,000 hours ago and I recently experimented with switching the bindings to something else. I did not like the new binds and tried to switch back to my original setup and I cannot bind the directional arrows as movement keys anymore. I cannot play the game using WASD as my movement keys and I want to be bale to re-bind the arrow keys What is your character name in …
