Im on Macaria. Have never had an issue. At 4pm EST - the server went down for maintenance. Status page shows it is up but My character wont appear on the character select screen. I just get a spinning icon and it never comes up.

Sorry to hear you are having issues on the character selection screen, after the maintenance.
Please confirm if you are able to sing in and play as normal or is giving you in-game issues.

I’m an having the same issue on US West Sannikov Land. I able to login earlier today after maintenance, but now my client is bugged. I’ve tried reinstalling.
I’m having the same issue, I also reinstalled the game. US EAST Cantahar. Character logon screen just spins
@Kaalenarc I was able to fix the issue by removing (moved it to a new location) my appdata from C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\AGS\New World\savedata

THIS. This fixed it. one and a half hours on live chat w support and they never came up with this. Even a full reinstall didnt work. Thank you SO much!!!
Sometimes it is fixing it for me. Raley im able to get into the game and them the game freezes and crashes.:

try deleting the savedata folder as outlined above - that worked for me
