I had a very rude awakening to the tuning orb issue in this game today when during the main questline, I entered into the depths expedition with a less than ideal group (healer/tank weren’t that strong). We couldn’t finish and to my surprise the tuning orb was lost and now I have to create a new one to continue the main questline. Can you believe that? The designers designed this game so that you actually get stuck on the main questline if you fail an expedition. There is no reset. There is no, “oops, please give me my tuning orb back.” Further to my surprise was that to create a tuning orb for one chance again at that depths expedition, I need one energy core, 50 lodestone bricks, one starmetal chisel, and two corrupted shards. I was fortunate to find some folks to help me farm the corrupted, but there weren’t many interested, and while that effort did result in the shard collection, it also resulted in plenty of deaths (we were only four, as there was no other interest in chat), which required around 1000 gold for repairs. The energy orb requires a whopping 50 motes of each type, and on my server, some of those motes are going for 1 gold each, if not more. To collect 7 x 50 motes takes a lot of time. On top of that, I need to farm for the materials to make 50 lodestone bricks. That will require 150 sandpaper, so more farming those houses along the roads for supply crates. All of that time spent so that I get ONE chance to do the expedition again. And, when I finally get that tuning orb, I’ll be super extra careful to invite only the best, top level 60 players who guarantee they are the best. Will I invite my 14 year old son who is level 30 and needs to do the expedition too? Probably not, as I have to guarantee a finish. This is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. I have 200 hours in this game, and I’ve loved it so far, but this tuning orb requirement just pisses me off. I’m an endgame player at ESO, and up to this point, I’ve really appreciated a lot of the great graphics in New World and some other aspects, but this tuning orb requirement is such a massive turnoff when in ESO I can run any dungeon I want at any time, as long as I queue up and wait, and I can run any trial I want with an organized group with my guild. If we don’t finish, I don’t have to farm for hours for another chance at it. I’ll be honest here, I think I might be done with this game after finding out how difficult (and costly) it is to be an endgame player.
