- NO. Mounts do not belong in this game. Distance matters.
- It’s an MMO. FFXIV is group gated and it does just fine. Get out of your shell.
- This is not in their dungeon / expedition design.
It sounds like you want a different game. So go play it.
It sounds like you want a different game. So go play it.
No to everything. Go and play a single player if u want to go SOLO 24/7. Mounts are not necessary right now, lot of portals available and the map is not that big.
Yes, exactly as you’ve put it! Shouting in chat should not be required to play and progress through the game!
And there’s nothing wrong for players to want something from a game that they’re playing. No need to bully people out and kill the game faster.
No thank you. I know pretty much all other mmos (except GW2 I believe unless they added them) has mounts but no thanks for here. It is a breath of fresh air imo. If they add mounts then people will cry they want flying and flying, especially in WoW, has caused nothing but issues. So I hope they keep mounts out.
It might be just me, but I am not understanding what you are saying. I haven’t gotten to do the first dungeon yet because I am only lvl 20 so maybe that’s why, but are they not instanced?
I have no opinion about mounts but I strongly agree with your second point, the game should not “force” players into dungeons.
For all the people who enjoy it , I am not against having dungeons, but make the content optional, reward people who participate even more. Just please let me continue main quest line without standing for hours and asking other random players to join me.
Another argument for making it optional, in couple days when the first big wave of players are doing 2nd and 3rd dungeons, who is going to group with new players or those who level slower? Current design is not sustainable for players behind the curve.
I am for the idea of mounts as I will explain further in this post, but only after I explain why mounts are not necessary just yet but in the near future a few months from now.
Traveling is not that bad currently and forces players to unlock new fast travel waypoints and major city hubs. I am only a level 22 character, but am able to easily teleport around most of the beginning areas as well as some higher level 25+ areas. After picking up a few side, town, and faction quests, I’m usually able to easily chain them between two or three major waypoints whilst also resource gathering along the way. Only on occasion am I left traveling large distances without a teleport node nearby, and this has mostly been limited to main story quests that are taking me to entirely new areas and regions, so it makes sense I don’t have access to those teleport nodes yet but will shortly.
Down the road, I completely agree with the idea of mounts being added overtime though. Maybe with a variation of a haste/burden system where if the mount is ridden on trails and roadways it is able to gain speed and traverse quickly, but as soon as you deviate from the path into the woods or other off road terrain it becomes burdened and loses most of its maximum speed but still just slightly faster than sprinting on foot.
Crafters can then build gear for mounts that give them attributes/buffs to move faster in certain terrain while possibly sacrificing overall maximum speed due to the additional equipped burden on the mount.
So someone who gathers a lot from woodland areas, may have their mount outfitted with gear that allows additional encumbrance tolerance and traversal speed while within wooded areas, but its maximum speed will be throttled compared to an unburdened mount used strictly for fast traversal of large areas that may be outfitted with additional gear that provides more haste or stamina on trails while sacrificing carry weight.
Also outfitting mounts for use in battle would be neat to see as well after the mount system itself has been ironed out. Can already see spear wielders jousting on their mounts, axemen cleaving from horse back, and bowmen and mages shooting a volly of arrows and spells as they kite around groups of enemies. Though such a system will require heavy balancing, and shouldn’t be implemented for PvP till after sometime.
I can see why main story content that involves group dungeons can be an issue for some players, but allowing an entirely solo only play through honestly defeats the premise of a MMO. It also introduces scaling issues, as a solo healer vs a tank vs a DPS main have wildly varying stats. It would require a rework of all current dungeons and future dungeons to scale properly and honestly does not even seem feasible without making difficult for one class of solo players, just right for another class, and so easy it is boring for another class.
I do agree with this idea though and was shocked when I got to the first dungeon that such an auto match making system was not already in place. I was hoping for something similar to FFXIV, but instead everything is done manually which does add to the immersion of actually needing to talk and coordinate with players, but with limited time due to poor queue systems it becomes more of a headache.
To prevent issues with early game dungeons losing interested players making it tough for new players to find groups to run it, a reward/bounty system and honestly daily roulette system similar to FFXIV should be implemented with down scaling of higher player stats via temp level caps so it still poses some challenge even for higher leveled players unless they opt for an unsynced level run similar to FFXIV.
1.) Mounts should be added asap, as one of the very first new features. Traveling is quite horrible and walking around takes way too long
Nope. People only want them because they are used to them in newer games. Can’t even enjoy the walk? I’ll also pass having thousands of players in a town on mounts blocking others and rampaging through PvP.
2.) The main story should not be gated by (difficult) group content, but allow anyone, also solo players, to see the final chapter.
Solo? That isn’t what an MMORPG is about. There are a ton of things to do solo in the game. Get a group. Ask around. Join a Discord. But don’t force this to become a single player game.
3.) Dungeons in general should be open dungeons (means anyone can join through the entrance, a solo player or a premade group) and the mobs would be scaled down to actual group size. The open dungeon would matchmake players to existing players automatically.
With the solo again. Why? I don’t get this.
There is one clear message about the gameplay in New World that I have picked up in my time playing. Although you can play it solo, I spent a long time in alpha doing that before I joined up with my current company, the game is heavily based around group play.
It is intended to be played with others. You’ll realise it more when you get to higher level areas that you have a smoother time just completing side quests, etc if you are travelling as more than one player.
Play it as solo if you want, I have for many other MMOs, but New World is more punishing if you don’t find either a group of friends or a company to your taste to play with.
Not every player is going to like this gameplay style and well, then you have the choice whether to stay or leave.
But that doesn’t work anymore, and the current roster of MMO’s that have survived up to now understood and respected that.
“You need to group up if you want to get through this zone/level up/progress/get through the story” is a one way ticket to MMO maintenance mode. What happens when a newer player behind the curve joins, suddenly they have to beg in chat for help to a group of people they never communicated with? What happens if someone plays outside prime hours? They now have to sit and wait around for a group to progress?
This Doesn’t Work Anymore.
Why would People ever toggle pvp on if They can’t use their mount? I could just use my 50-100% mount speed to breeze through the game the get to end game in a week and only ever play outpost rush. Ill never need to toggle pvp on ever again. The benefit of having a mount far outways the benefits of toggling in pvp. The number of open world pvp would greatly decrease.
could change this title to “Things i would like in the game”. Laughable that a game thats been out about a week “NEED CHANGES OR IT WILL DIE HURRRRR”.
As a game that’s been out a week but didn’t make changes recommended in closed Beta, I’d say the game “needs changes or it will die” can be a fair statement to make.
The easy solution to that is no mounts in town and no mounting while flagged. preserves both open world pvp and keeps town clear. there are plenty of ways that they could add mounts to the game that would enhance the experience and provide new content, while still preserving the current feel of the game.
I would also add the ability folks to consistently fast travel is heavily correlated to the faction balance on the sever. Play in a minority faction, that can barely hold 1 remote territory, on a server where 75% of the population is in one faction and see how much more valuable Azoth becomes. Im sure the purple folks on my server are complaining about the cap while i have to constantly farm portals to get a teleport home.
I’d rather have an immersive game than a game thought for streamers first.
What streamers do you talk about?
The argument should be why mounts are needed not why they aren’t. Travel is quick & easy. Moving around the map is fine. You can completely fill your Azoth in an hour or two of portals. Mounts at this point are unnecessary & would really trash up the game. There are plenty of games where you can sit on your mount and block a critical NPC or show off your glowy winged hydra. Why does New World need that too? I haven’t seen a compelling argument as to how gameplay or player experience would be enhanced by mounts.
1.) Free travel in the world
2.) Cargo transports
3.) Having a collectible. My idea would be to tame and breed mounts.
4.) The current travel in game is not immersive. Teleport never really was a good way to transport in any MMORPG and it never was immersive
So you say, only because it was bad in WoW, it means mounts would be bad in every other game? Where does that stance come from? Also, i would install stables in front of hamlets, where you had to put your mount before you enter the city.
There are a lot of compelling arguments. You and your alikes just ignore them. Next you will tell me mounts destroy pvp. While i tell you i would make mounts killable in the open world. So a few hits would make you to retame and relevel a mount. Next you also will tell me it makes the world small. I will tell you the teleporting does the same, even worse than that, you do not even have to travel at all anymore, once you have a shrine you can zap there, which is no immersive way to travel.
Why do i know what your arguments will be? Because you parrot the same arguments others have brought a hundred times. And they are all bad.
Point 1 has no sense, you can freely travel the world either by feet or fast travel.
Point 2 I can understand but managing your deposit and inventory is part of the game mechanics and inconveniences are part of it too. There might be interesting way in the future to make maybe some public caravan to move resources but not as personal mounts.
Point 3 is just an empty desire, we have weapon/armor skins, pets and forniture as collectible, we don’t need something that changes a lot the game feeling just to add collectibles.
Point 4 is subjective. I really like going around while being careful of my inventory and checking weird places that I would totally miss otherwise, if instead I need just to reach a place here comes the teleport and this time they managed to make it part of the world and not just a “now you are there” feature.
You can only teleport to given points on the map, convenient fast travel to any quest location is not possible with that system. People are already complaining the game is a “walking simulator”. Often you invest more time in traveling from a) to b) than actually playing the game. Mounts would offer a faster travel with immersive means, but you also had to care about not bringing them in dangerous situations, so parking them in mob spawns would be no good idea.
There is no “managing”, you literally are able to teleport your items from one stash to the other if your faction owns the region. Thats is also not immersive. I talk about mounts you tame and breed you use with carriages to do trade between hamlets and regions. With a meaningful price and salesmanagement, as a real merchant system.
What “we need” is not up to you decide, i for example would love multiple skins you could collect in the world or buy from the shop for mounts you tamed.
Sure it is a “now you are there” feature. Even worse, it is a teleporting system replacing a meaningful means of transportation and merchant implementation other sandbox pvp games have. Actually, the game features the worst implementation of travel and cargo transportation possible. I want to replace it by a meaningful system.
Tell me, where does your mount hatred come from? Did you play WoW, and believe, it would be as bad implemented as it was in that old game?
