Character auto-blocks after using tools/weapons

  • What is your character name in New World:

Mean Herman

  • What server/world did you experience your issue on:

Antullia

  • Describe the issue you are experiencing:

Whenever I finish using a tool (i.e. mine a boulder, harvest a carcass, etc.) or draw my weapon, my character automatically starts blocking. I cannot stop blocking until I sheath my weapon, or–after using a tool–I draw my weapon and then sheath it. This is obviously a problem in combat, since I cannot run with my weapon drawn because I’m stuck in a block. Once my weapon is sheathed I can move about normally and interact with things without issue. It’s only when I finish using a tool or draw my weapon that my character gets stuck in a block that happens automatically.

  • Is this a bug or an exploit:

Bug

  • (if a bug) How did the issue effect your gameplay:

I’m not very effective in combat, and it greatly limits the flow of my gameplay. It is incredibly frustrating.

  • (if a bug) Were you able to recover from the issue:

I tried using the workaround for the “E does not interact with the environment” bug. I deleted the ‘savedata’ folder and restarted the game, but it didn’t correct the problem. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling the game. I’ve reset my keybinds to default, I’ve changed my keybinds, I’ve looked around in all my gameplay options, and nothing has fixed it or even changed the issue.

  • (if a bug) Please include a screenshot or video of the issue that you have experienced:

  • What are the steps to reproduce the issue as you experienced:

I’ve had this problem since I started playing the game, so it’s always been there. It wasn’t until I complained about it to my friend that I realized this isn’t some weird option that I needed to adjust. I’ve watched friends play, and they do not have the same issue at all. I don’t think it would be possible to recreate it on my own.

Update: I created a second character on another server to troubleshoot. The new character did the same thing, so it isn’t a character issue. It must be either an account-based issue, or a computer issue (although I don’t see how it could be the latter).

FINAL UPDATE: I found the problem. I had an Xbox controller plugged into my PC (I know what you’re thinking, it had a button suppressed or something, but it didn’t). Last I knew, this game doesn’t support controllers yet. As soon as I unplugged the Xbox controller, BOOM! Problem solved! The moment I plugged it back in, BOOM! Character blocking again! I don’t know why this is a thing, but at least I figured out what the problem was.
