Character Customization UPDATE!

I think New Worlds skins/armour are actually really good and some of the best in any mmo. Yes, there’s not many famale looking skins yet. But they’re getting better and for character customization; New world has better character customization than WoW, Guild Wars 2 and FFXIV. Honestly, the reason “most” people say New Worlds character customization is bad/lacks many options is because there’s only 1 playable race, humans.

You’re free to like whatever you want… however here we are not talking about ARTISTIC preference, or OPINIONs.

We are OBJECTIVELY looking at the Character Creator and CUSTOMIZATION options.
So lets go over what is available in NW:
2 Body Types.
Hairstyles, Beards, eye colour, eyebrows.

You can buy and apply skins by changing the appearence of 5 pieces of gear and 2 weapons.

A VAST MAJORITY OF skins and outfits FOLLOW THE EXACT SAME PATTERN, THERE IS VERY LITTLE ORIGINAL WORK.

Now lets take a look at the other games

WoW:
14 body types (BOTH MALE AND FEMALE) so 28 in total…14 TIMES MORE OPTIONS THAT NW.
More hair options then NW.
More facial options then NW.
More everything rly, pointless to go over each category.

There is transmog in the game, you have litteraly tens of thousands of options.
IN New World skins follow the same pattern in WOW they have about 20 different patterns that they follow, at least 100 times more options then NW.

GW2:
Over 100 Body types…
And hundreds of other options…
Its NOT-INTELLIGENT to even compare them, because its like comparing a GLAXY to a MICROBE.
It litteraly has thousands of fashion options, they are extremly different, very few follow the same pattern and so on. Almost every single costume is completely unique from others.

ESO:
Over 30 Body types.
Countless customization options.
You can wear anything with anyone, from MiniSkirts to the big baddass armor you can customize your character however you want.
They also have transmog, which basically opens countless options.
You have tens of animations that u can swap between (maybe hundreds).
The only negative i can think off is that it does not have CAPES!

FF14:
Over 24 Body types, and you can change the scale for any of them.
Again way more option that NW has… for character customization.
Has transmog, has thousands of skins and outfits, most of them are unique and different.

IN all THESE GAMES all those BODY TYPES have THEIR OWN UNIQUE ANIMATIONS !

IN NW, you have ONE set of animations for both MALE and FEMALE! … its not even funny as a joke… its fking sad.

NOT EVERYTHING Looks bad in NW, BUT MOST THINGS DO… and in my OPINION is not because of the THINGS themselves. its because of the body types…

EVERYONE IS A CLONE! EVERYONE HAS THE SAME ANIMATIONS !

Even if they manage to break the mold and make unique SKINS, it will still not fix the problem… BECAUSE everyone will still be CLONE and everyone will still use the SAME ANIMATIONS !

SO yeah you can like what they have available but dont talk crap… and dont LIE about NW being even remotely in the same ballpark to other MMORPGs, because its not… and until the developers realise this it will never be.

Dont even get me started on Black Desert Online, who litteraly has HUNDREDS of THOUSAND of CUSTOMIZATION options… Amazons Games Studio should have a SHRINE dedicated to Pearl ABYSS where every employee should pray everyday and beg for inspiration!

My initial reaction is to recommend a trip to the psychiatrist.
Cause those must be delusions, or drug induced fantasies.

SADLY New World COULD HAVE Had, or have at some point (if the devs decided to pay any attention to us) the 2ND Best Character creator(2nd to BDO, cause I don’t believe the New World devs have the resources to ever match BDOs devs).
The truth is New World has some beautiful graphics and effects… so we could have ended up with some amazing looking characters, and even if we had only 6 or 10 body options in total and some different animations for them, the beautiful graphics might have made up for the lack of “more” options… but when all u have is an Army or clones… you shouldn’t even claim you have a character creator.

TLDR Sadly instead of having something amazing, that would have been in the top of the industry… we got this sad excuse of a clonning factory. It would have taken so little effort to have something more… anything more…

Female faces look much worse than the bodies. Many don’t look female at all. New World can really use a full character creation overhaul, amongst other things. Character creation should become fully customisable.

This would be amazing… but i think it will never happen… sadly… there is 0% change the devs will make an amazing character creator even with 1% of the options something like BDO has.

However I think there is a small chance, they might give us like 2-3-5 more body options for each type, if we keep bringing this up with every oportunity… spamm those social media posts

We only need one person in charge of the game to do something about this

As for the faces, i believe when you make a character you have access to all faces, both male and female, like you have access to all hairstyles and in general… you have access to all options… which does make it look very wierd… but idk maybe its a good thing to have more options… even if half of them are innapropriate for the one of the body types.

Are you for real? Have you ever played wow, gw2 or ffxiv? lol Even games from early 2000’s have better character customization than NW, a game with such a beautiful graphics. You don’t even know what you are talking about.

(I’ll comepare NW with BDO, because the GAME WORLD is very SIMILAR… sadly in NW, the characters look completely disconnected from the world, like they have been taken from a different game and put in this one… they barely even look comparable to the NPC monsters)

Should have roughly similar styles since the world itself is extremly similar. Both games have amazingly talented enviormental artists at the same level. Sadly one of the games have Artists that created the character creator together with the devs and are working on skins and the other one doesnt…

(Just the quality of the characters in NW is subpar…)

New World Community Skins :

Black Desert Online Community Skins:
Every once in a while they have a competition and people submit designs… the community votes for them and the one with most votes gets implemented as a skin (on rare ocasions if people REALY like 2-3 skins they implement more then one).
IT IS ENTIRELY UP TO THE COMMUNITY, THE DEVS HAVE STATE THAT ANYTHING VOTED BY THE COMMUNITY WILL GET IMPLEMNTED ! They have 0 say in it and there are no guidelines to follow!

This is some of the work that has been voted by the community and implemented.

These are just a few of the skins made by the community… and implemented by the devs.
All the drawings are done by members of the community, while the 2nd image is the work the developers created in game. You can judge for urself the quality.

There are quite a few more community skins that they implemented, but lets say they are a bit “SPICY”.

It’s ridiculous how little effort they put into the character model. You know, the thing that will be in the center of the GD screen at all times!

The males are okish at best but the females or “body type 2” are absolutely horrendous. Games with 1/100th the budget do a better job.

Look at GW2, FFXIV, or the ultra impressive BDO character creation. Hell even EVE Online has an impressive character creator and you spend 99.9% of your time in a ship in that game

NW needs a character creation and model overhaul because compared to the world we are running around it looks like 2 different games and unfortunately we have to stare at our character’s ugly backside.

With games like Pax Dei, Quinfall, and TL coming down the pipeline with amazing character creation I’m hoping that the dev team gets the memo pretty soon that they need to allocate some resources to this area of the game.

Personally I am very well aware of this upcoming games… even closely involved with some of them.

BUT I love so many things about NW, I trully believe NW can be ONE of the BEST MMORPGs, if it just had better people in charge of Character Agency, or if the people that are in charge of it would learn from their mistakes rather then just burry their head in the sand and pretend nothing is wrong.

I don’t want to stop playing NW because they refused to relealize their insuficiencies… I dont even understand why they are refusing to aknowledge there is something wrong. It’s so puzzling, DO they not want this game to do better? DO they not want this game to have 100k+ concurrent players? DO They not want the game that they work on to be a better product? Why are they just complacent with being a medriocre MMO… when with so LITTLE they could end up being one of the top MMORPGs…

BUT there is some “good” news… Lovan the video director for AGS, said that he will try to ask the the devs questions regarding this topic in the next Community Q&A, which is being filmed next week… so probably released soon-ish.

So hopefully by the time we get to 540-550 days they will have at least shared their perspective on this subject… hopefully no empty words like: “we are looking into it and we will let u know in 6 months”…

More base character customization options and an in-game flesh sculptor (or whatever) to change them post-creation would be most welcome.

Are you refering to a character customization such as BDO? Where you can change individual parts of ur characters physique ?

IF you are, I agree and I think that would be the most amazing things ever… and would be absolutely amazing to have something like that in NW.

BUT I think its unrealistic to suggest something like that, for a few reasons, but mainly because of the work required. When we suggest things we consider the things we like the most… but we have to also consider, the way the game is and if our suggestion has any chance of being implemented… no point in suggesting something that will never be even considered.

My suggestion is trying to be considerate of what is possible and what the developers are most likely to consider implementing. What they would be willing to consider.

I believe a simple solution like adding a few more body types would be most likely to be considered and added to the game, hence my suggestion.

Maybe I’m wrong, and lets hope I am in this case, and they will implement something much more amazing. We will have to wait a bit for them to adress this in the next Community Q&A video.

Fun fact of the day: Chris Roberts (the one making Start Citizen) believes most good games offer about 10k face variations for thier character customization, thats why he decided to have over 100k in his game… maybe he wouldn’t have tried so hard if he heard of NW.
