Classless system can be good and interesting when enough flesh around bones, i don’t deny that, but when that progression system is just too bare like here i only see it boring. As i have said advanced combat mechanics (dark souls inspired) would chance things but they failed that. Simplicity and freedom is always good in certain limit, but when it goes below acceptable standard (big budget), it’s just disgrace to see.
I hope you have fun in your plastic made, soulless, brain dead simple freedom World.
I have complaints about quite a few things here but the classless system is not bad and the combat is actually pretty good. If you hate it that much go find something that fits what you want because there is zero chance they change this game to what you would enjoy.
I get what you’re saying, but this is intentional because guess what? This sort of freedom attracts some people. I like classes, but this is nice too. The weapon is your class, you are allowed to re-spec, and there is a build system, even if it isn’t super-sophisticated.
I’m gonna let you in on a little secret though. No matter how complex the system is, there is ALWAYS a “best” choice and that becomes the expectation. Games like old school WoW, or Diablo 2, or any other game with class builds ALWAYS came down to a “best” build, giving the illusion of choice.
That is your opinion, and I do not share that. I like the classless system, just as I liked it in the oroginal SW Galaxies. Being classless was a selling point for me and many of my friends. The freedom to do what I want to do, specialize or not in a specific weapon, do whatever combinations I wanted was a breath of fresh air and something I’ve longed for.
Classes are boring and 1 dimensional. A lot more variety in this game than “oh i play warrior” was one of the many reasons i hated ESO. Oblivion and skyrim both has classless systems essentially so i was expecting that in the mmo version and i get stuck with stupid classes and borderline tab target combat. ESO ditched everything that made the elder scrolls games good.
The game is a “Skill based” MMO. They are a thing and have been around for a while. There are several skill-based MMOs currently on the market including Secret World and Eve Online. They aren’t for everyone, but they do exist. If skill based games arent for you thats fine, but sir you are definitely in the wrong game.
I know its peoples opinion and everyone has different taste. This game is equivalent to finding that hot girlfriend. She dresses up nice and at first glance you think you have hit the jackpot. Then after a few dates you start to realize that she has no real depth and isn’t all that smart. You try to give her a chance but the more you talk the more you realize she will always be shallow. This game is shallow and you quickly find yourself in a mess of a game that looks nice but what does it offer? I’ve played a wide variety of MMO’s and there isn’t anything really new and what is decent is being done better in other games.
This is not open sandbox. They want you to think that but it isn’t. Star ways galaxies was superior to this game before they nerfed the hell out of it back when Sony purchased it.
I worked my !@#$ off doing all the less boring but inefficient for leveling parts of the game to get to 60. I am very happy with the class system, mostly because I do not have to repeat it all again.
You pretty much nailed it, being classless isn’t anything innovative or automatically ‘‘positively different’’. Modern quality games offer more choices for your character; race and class. Partially shared progress between characters helps here. That’s freedom of choice, but here it’s just as bad as character customization.
Older good and fun MMO’s that lean on simplicity like classless system, like old Runescape do it in a working way. For something like ‘‘simple’’ java based games with weak graphics that’s understandable.
All in all New World is just abomination of a game, that plays to be something innovative, when it isn’t.
