Coarse -> Medium -> Fine -> Polish -> Balanced, NOT Nerf -> Buff -> Nerf -> Buff -> NEVER Balanced

The heavy handed Nerf of Life Staff and other changes recently shows that the AGS method for balance is wrong imo. Other MMOs have done the same:

Heavily Nerf an ability or item, deploy it, then realize they went too far. Buff it back, deploy it, then realize they over corrected. This ridiculous pendulum swinging rarely leads to a consensus balance. The initial heavy Nerf also often changes a player’s play style/build that they have gotten used to and enjoy into something entirely different and perhaps even unplayable.

I suggest the obvious. If a balance change is needed, Nerf some, but not as much as you think is needed (the Coarse change). Deploy it. If more change is needed (Nerf or Buff), make a smaller change (Medium). Deploy it. Continue deploying if needed, but with much smaller changes each time (Fine and Polish) until a consensus balance is reached.

This applies to all balance changes, whether PvP abilities or PvE boss encounters.

One would think that nerfing stuff to the ground will feel bad for both gameplay and balance. But logic works different in this game, so this is no longer the chase.
