As I might have suspected. I guess the company list is completely inaccurate as well then.
Not sure about that aspect as I don’t interact much with a vast majority of the companies listed.
I have been trying to recreate the exact issue and it seems the companies don’t release jf:
-You rename the company first
-Leave the renamed company
It appears both the original name and the renamed name are both locked. For me, it’s been about 4 days now and impossible both names were taken.
Any devs care to chime? There seems to be a lot of open tickets surrounding this (mine included) and the immediate or 24 hour thing seems to only apply to a company if you create it and then leave it (without a rename). This is definitely a database release issue that’s persistent under these specific conditions.
Thanks
When you said that company names become available “globally” are you saying that a company name has to be unique across ALL the servers? In which case the name could be taken on another server?
I too suffer from changing my company name and coming back only to discover its been mysteriously taken. I see enough evidence on this page to know that AWS is not working as intended. New World devs, please fix. Thank you.
This is not the case in game. Whatever system that is meant to be in place to unlock a company name after it is removed is not working properly. We had several people log onto the first server that came up in a different region so we can save the name for later when US East came up and the name was locked from the start. We tried a few names and many were locked likely from beta.
Someone needs to go check the database and review the names that are locked out against companies with no people in them as I suspect that is likely the bug causing the issue. That or the call to unlock a name for use is not working correctly.
That don’t seems to be the case, what are the chances someone grabbed our company within 5 seconds my friend changed it?
Another potential addition to this bug, on launch day I got into a high-pop server early, created our company (very unique name), but then later in the afternoon transferred over to playing on another server. I deleted my original character but did not disband the company first. I’m unable to use that company name on the new server, stating it is already taken. Possible that the company name is bound to that old deleted character? I thought company names were bound to the account like player names?
My problems have been resolved as of Update 1.0.1. Thank you Dev team!
No different after the patch. Amazon could do with hiring some GMs.
So I have been dealing with the issue that after the Dev team told us we should have our guildmates make a toon on one of the new servers they added, and everyone can transfer over there afterwards… they never mentioned you cannot take your current Company Name with you and that you will LOOSE the name if you rename or disband the company? If we knew that, we would of made a temporarily silly name to start with… however… the server lock/que issue happened afterwards, so we didn’t know it would become an issue… although, why would it?
Here was the response I received in an email:
“This is in follow up with the Ticket about Recovering the Name.I am sorry to say this that even our Technical Team members are unable to restore/manually set Company Names that have been already used in the past.”
So if company names can only be used ONCE, then they better announce this is the case when you are Creating the Company and/or renaming it. Never did we ever know this would be an issue.
well you could look at it as them doing you a favor.
I cant change my company name either or message of the day
@WarriorCE This is not the case. I was looking to change my company name to see what was taken and what was not. I cannot go back to our original name nor any name I was checking to see if it was taken.
Any idea why it is not instantaneous as advertised?
Bump
I have a similar issue to this that is still not resolved.
As our company was moving servers, I had C=changed the company name from (as an example) “OriginalCompany” to “AbandonedCompany”
THEN deleted it.
Upon remaking the company on the next server, the company name “OriginalCompany” was taken… BUT we could still use “AbandonedCompany”
Looks like the root of the issue and names not clearing has to be the way with name changes/deletions get handled in the database?
Anyway, please look into this!
Could we have some acknowledgement this has been picked up by devs?
I raised a ticket over live chat and they have confirmed this is in fact an issue, We have been unable to have our correct company name for about a week now.
Bump
This is false. It may be intended to be that way but I am certain it is not working as intended. I switched from Marauder to Syndicate to start working on the Syndicate steam achievements, and was able to claim my name when i switched. Soon after my friend and I wanted to see what possible guild names we could come up with and I ended up accidentally switching the name. Now we cannot get our guild name back. This is a guild name I’ve held for years and have never had anyone take it no matter how long the game was out before I played it, and just like many others in this post I have had it taken in seconds. If we are to believe this system is working as intended, then I don’t buy it.
Similar Issue, no way this system is functioning as intended. I have also found out that “Clan” is an invalid word for making a company.
Greetings @UnclePunch.
Welcome to the forums traveler!
Sorry about the inconvenience this might cause, I would like to make a clarification about this topic on the company names.
When you change a company name, the name is locked in our data base for 90 days. So if you regret and want to set back the same name you will face this message “Invalid name, name already taken”.
I hope this information works, see you in Aeternum.
