I posted a bug where I could read company chat of my previously owned company. And in it I stated that we lost our company name in doing so.

I can read previous Company chat and I cannot get my company name - Bugs and Exploits / Bugs and Exploits - New World Forums
Now this name change was done with a friend I have known for multiple years and over discord so that I could alter the name right away.
I however feel that the previous company name of ‘Attrition’ is currently locked to my char and not available to anyone else including myself.
I find it all but impossible that some random other company would have picked up the name Attrition within a 5 second window (probably less). Regardless, I have tried correcting my company name every day since. Please verify this bug and issue a correction.

Sorry to hear you haven’t been able to change your company’s name and thank you for previously reporting this bug.
As for the company name, it hasn’t been confirmed how long it takes for names to be released however, I’ve confirmed that the name “Attrition” hasn’t been taken. Please try again to change your company’s name and let us know if you aren’t able to.

If you are getting the message “Invalid name, name already taken” unfortunately the name was already taken for another player on their company and there is no way to work around that.
In regards to names lock, company names are not locked, when a company name is deleted is immediately available to be used globally.

We recently got some new information about the issue.
As for now, company names are working with a single use, which means these can be used only once and that’s why the name is showing to be taken even though is not.
Our dev team is currently working on a fix.
