Hello,
My company recently travelled to a new world. In preparation of this transfer we made sure to change the name of our previous company so that it would be available once we transferred.
After we transferred, we are getting an error saying that the name is not available. Can someone provide some insight on why this is or what we can do to fix the issue?

You should have read the server transfer megathread.
Note: you should NOT rename your Company if you intend to transfer it. That will make the old name unavailable on a new server. Full emptying the Company so it is abandoned will free the name up for re-use.
