So. The computer just completely freezes up. Nothing responds, and there is no error message. I’ve updated the drivers to the latest versions and increased the virtual memory, as well as verified the game files.
And still everything crashes so completely that I have to hard-restart my computer. Nothing works what so ever. I’ve tried to monitor the resource usage but as far as I can tell, it stays well within safe parameters.
my pc completely shuts off and i have to restart. ive reinstalled the game and done all the steps you listed plus uninstalled afterburner and kombuster
I limited the FPS to 60 ingame, and haven’t had a single crash since. I noticed that before I changed the limit to 60 FPS, my GPU ran at 100% capacity. After I changed to 60 FPS the GPU load stabilised to 50-65%
Update: I took another look at the troubleshooting steps listed here: Game keeps crashing? Try any of these steps!. For the specific crash being described, which is the same as what I was going through, try the bit about setting the page file. Make sure you’re setting it for the drive you have the game installed to. Got mine configured right and it’s eliminated crashes. It’d reliably do it within 20 minutes, now I can play for over an hour without problems.
EDIT: NEVERMIND, it’s still broke. Please fix your game, Amazon, I beg you.
The same thing happens to me. The best results I’ve had was with capping FPS within GPU for New World to 60. Setting everything to low settings. Seems to last a couple of hours at best now compared to 15-30 minutes beforehand. Super frustrating having to force restart. Makes me not want to play the game knowing it is going to happen.

Having the same issue, only started since the last update a few hours ago. Game freezes the entire computer after a few minutes of running or immediately when I try to load into a server and the only solution is hard shutting down the entire computer. It’s completely ridiculous.
All drivers are updated, verified game files and nothing was broken, windows is fully updated, graphics settings don’t matter at all including fullscreen/windowed and capping framerate, increasing virtual memory, deleting specific game files.

How has this not gotten any kind of staff response yet? We’ve got far less severe issues posted more recently somehow getting higher priority from the staff team here. This should have already been thoroughly investigated by now. If y’all got time to respond to a basic question about deleted characters that was probably already answered in an FAQ somewhere, you definitely have time to look into the game CAUSING COMPLETE SYSTEM CRASHES.
Yup, one should think so. And after the update I’ve had a couple of them even with 60 FPS limiter on. Weird thing is that there is no log what so ever in even viewer that indicates why the PC just completely freezes.
Yeah, the most I can find is some stuff about disks that don’t even exist being removed unexpectedly, and even then it’s not treated as a critical issue. It also shows up at other timestamps, not just the ones where the game crashed my PC, so it’s probably not that.
Thank you for your reply. Knock on wood I didn’t have any crash yesterday, but I’m not counting on it as an indication of a fix, so I’ve gone ahead with your suggestions.
Sure hope AGS comes up with something, it’s passing strange to have to do all of this just for New World, while other open world that hogs resources - like Red Dead Redemption 2 - works fine without any issues. I’m suspecting the Lumberjack engine has been poorly optimised for this kind of work in the game.
Tried this and unfortunately it didn’t help at all. I’ve found several ‘solutions’ to my pc crashing but even the ones that do work only seem to work for a day before the crashes come back consistently within a minute of logging in, so the game is currently entirely unplayable for me.
I have noticed this game tends to push the gpu to its limits constantly. During recalls it drops a bit then spikes dramatically which may create a situation where the gpu goes beyond its limit and untimely triggers a crash. By underclocking slighty you should limit those spikes within the GPU’s capabilities.
Yes I’ve noticed that behaviour too, though less so after I capped FPS to 60. Game is running smoothly now and haven’t had a single crash (probably going to jinx it now) in days.
Though it would be good if AGS could at least get some update on it, it seems to be an issue for a lot of people. I wouldn’t mind providing hardware info to AGS for further study, and I’m sure others would as well if it could help them stabilise the engine.
