I am concerned about whether the climbing/jumping mechanic will be required for any major rewards or content.
Some of us have disabilities that prevent jumping with precision as required in other MMOs. Even getting to a certain elite chest in Malevolence is risky. When I have to drop to a narrow ledge, scoot along said ledge, duck under a root and so on I may well end up plummeting. Getting split from the group and either getting killed or giving up on the rest of the run isnât a fun mechanic for me. Alternatively I donât go for the chest, âpaywalledâ by my own disability.
To give folks like me an âoutâ defeats the purpose of jumping puzzles. I have close friends who love crawling on every pile of rock they see just for the vista and bragging rights. Iâm in favor of them getting rewarded for their ability.
If I canât get to an optional chest on a tree branch in Depths I can live with it. If completing a jumping puzzle is required for an expedition it means I canât participate in that content. I donât want that frustration.
I hope Amazon will consider this when placing key chests, items and routing in Expeditions.
Ah man, I got that Depths chest like twice, ended up giving up long ago.
The malevolence one, just âblockâ and strafe, or crawl and strafe.
I feel you bud, hope that the game still has a place for everyone. Not that itâs locking people out but I remember the Starstone parkour and my early levels bankruptcy due repairs.
There is. However its not that bad as there are no archers around. Its a place called âcity of pillarsâ, full of goats. Take your time, and keep pressing forward till you get up as there is an âauto-grab on and pull yerself upâ.
As for Malevolence, I know where you are talking. Get there with room behind you and use the âwalkâ function and duck under the root and youâll be ok.
Iâm in the same boat, and PTR was rather bad in that respect. Itâs not hard to figure out what to do, but if you have disabilities it can be very hard to actually do it.
The only (physically) difficult puzzles I encountered were to collect glyphs. I might have to recruit my husband to do some of them. I did not do the new expedition
I do foresee how some of the jumps causing issues for people with disabilities. During some of the new fresh start quests there are a few areas that require some jumps to get up to. Although they werenât hard for me that doesnât mean it wonât be for people with legitimate hand issues ect, so I believe this post should be passed on to the proper teams.
However instead of removing these jumps I think Amazon has a good opportunity to add something additional into the game to make these accessible.
âŚclimbing gear with ropes and grapples⌠Something you would think explorers of a dangerous world would have and technically the blunderbuss already has with the hook shot.
Add in craft able items that allow players to vault or climb small distances. (Mainly to be used with these jumps)
know what else is ezmode? reading forums posts, thinking critically, having empathy, and responding in kind.
But doing that is not ezmode for you, so now that you understand what itâs like for something to not be ezmode for you, maybe you can understand the OP. Except you have the potential to change your situation, they donât.
And no pressure to respond until you are ready - it can take time to get good at being a good human.
That truly hurts random internet poster. Truly. Most that know me say I am a far above person and commit acts of kindness throughout each day. But I have read your words and understand your message
I love the idea to have craftable climbing hooks or similar! I think a lot of players would enjoy those, disabled or not.
Abilities vary, but the low level ones were pretty easy for me and were pretty straightforward: look in a direction and jump. I donât think they will be big issues for anyone that can play the game in the first place â which is already kind of a high bar for those with major hand or dexterity issues. (Or vision issues. NW is very much not an accessible game.)
Brimstone is more difficult: it requires some precise placement and timed double jumps and block jumps. Your idea is great because it leaves the puzzle difficulty in for those who can but adds an option for those who canât.
