Hi AGS,
The ability to track various plants, animals and rocks on the compass is fantastic, but I’m a little confused about how far away it detects things. It appears you can detect rabbits and turkeys from miles away, but ironwood doesn’t appear on the compass until you’re very close.
Is the distance based on the tier or rarity of the resource? Is it based on some straight-line hit-scan detection? I mean, if a tree is behind a hill, is that what stops it from being tracked? How does this work?
It would be rather cool if there were some way to improve our tracking ability. For example, if the various harvesting skills had their max raised to 300, and instead of adding new resources there would be a boost to tracking distance every, say, 25 levels.
It would also be very helpful to see the distance to the resource currently pointed to, even roughly. For example, if I turn until there’s a turkey icon over the central arrow on the compass, it could tell me the turkey is roughly 300 m away.
Just my 2 coppers, thanks for considering.
