First off, I absolutely LOVE this game. I’m a huge fan who has defended it on forums, twitter, reddit and Youtube to the mass exodus of haters out there who have tried to bring it down.
However, New World is the ONLY software/game my system can no longer run consistently. I’ve played hundreds of other games on this system over the years, and none have had issues. I do high end graphics and video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro and Audio editing in Avid Pro Tools, and not once has my system ever crashed.
Now the following specs fall in between the minimum and recommended system requirements as stated by AGS, so they should work. Which the game did fine the first month:

Nvidia GeForce GTX 970
New world has gotten progressively worse in stability since launch.
- At first I’d get a crash once every 8 hours of gameplay.
- The next patch, a crash about every 3 hours.
- Next patch 1 hour.
- Then in the December patch, crash every few minutes.
- Now in January 2022 I can’t even get past the Amazon logo screen and the game crashes to a blank screen of any random color on the rainbow. I often can still hear game sound in the back ground or someone in my party trying to communicate with me, then radio silence and………………my system reboots. At this point I attempt to get back into New World and crash at the Amazon logo screen over and over again, then in frustration, just shut down my computer and walk away.
A. If I’m in OPR, when I return after a crash, I had been kicked and have a 1 hour “quitter” ban.
B. If I’m in a dungeon, I return and the party has booted me for being afk.
C. If I’m fighting any trash mob in the world, when I return, I’ve died and am way back at the nearest settlement with a repair bill.
D. If I’m doing elite chest or portal runs, when I return, the entire zerg has already moved way ahead without me and I’ve lost all progress. Often hours and hours of work that is all lost because of the constant crashing.
I’ve spent more hours troubleshooting the game than actually playing it. I’ve read hundreds and hundreds of posts and complaints and cries for help from the community who are also experiencing these same crashes with no solutions from AGS. I have opened numerous tickets for help and all they’ve given are cookie cutter troubleshooting advice that never works.
Now before you go into suggestions on what I could have done different to play the game, here is a list of the things I attempted painstakingly over the last 3 months. I exhausted every resource possible and things only got worse.
- Uninstalled New World and Steam. Reinstalled New World and Steam.
- Bought new hard drives. Reinstalled on new hard drives.
- Installed steam on a separate hard drive as new world. Installed them both on same hard drive.
- Installed them on the boot drive with windows. Installed them not on the boot drive with windows. (I actually have one hard drive dedicated ONLY to steam and games with more than sufficient space)
- Checked integrity of New World files in steam
- Set in game video settings to lowest. Set them to highest. Set them to medium. Mixed some medium and some low. Turned off V-sync. Turned on V-sync.
- Tweaked Nvidia 3D settings on Nvidia control panel per recommendation of AGS.
- Tweaked each setting one by one in 3D settings of Nvidia control panel and tested each one separate
- Did a BIOS update
- Unchecked TCP/IPv6 on network adaptor.
- Overclocked my CPU a few levels, then brought it back down a few levels
- Ran intense and rigorous benchmark testing in “Cinebench”, to try and break my system and find any flaws in any hardware. There were none.
- Monitor CPU and GPU load in NZXT, while New World is running. They both use more resources and power than any other software, but at every crash, there is never any sign of a problem.
- Did a full clean of my boot drive, formatted, wiped out Windows and reinstalled a clean and brand new install.
- Disabled all overlays, including steam.
- Have ZERO background applications running, not even Discord.
- Tried forwarding and configuring the proper ports for New World
- Allowed New World through firewalls and given permissions
- Turned off Nvidia sound. Tried using only onboard sound. Disabled onboard sound and used only a soundcard. Disabled soundcard and even tried using a USB M-Audio M-Track 8x4M audio Interface Mixer. Used only headphones. Used only speakers.
- Opened up the case, made sure no parts or plugs or connections are loose. Cleaned and removed any dust inside the case.
- Keep daily updates of Windows and Nvidia latest drivers.
- Rolled back to previous Windows updates. Tried every nvidia driver update and rolled back all to each version as far back as June 2021.
- Deleted savedata folder and user preload-settings file
- Capped fps in game to 60. Capped fps to 60 in Nvidia Control Panel. Tried unlimted FPS. Tried different monitor resolutions in game.
- Flushed DNS
- Tried playing in fullscreen and windowed mode.
- Increased virtual memory in Windows
- Monitored CPU and GPU temps, all were absolutely normal at all times.
- Check integrity of Anticheat
- Played with different monitor hz. 144 to 165
- Check and clean all Malware daily. Check for Virus daily.
- Stood on my head and counted to 10.
In closing. Is all this work necessary? Should I as a client and customer have to spend hundreds of hours of my own time troubleshooting a product that should be working? This is absolutely unprofessional to the utmost degree. Not only are the DEV’s not addressing these issues, but customer support and tech support just spin you in circles with baseless rhetoric , as if stalling for time or avoiding the issues at hand. What AGS isn’t understanding is that we all LOVE New World. WE want to be fans. We want to play. We want to spend the next 10 years celebrating it’s success. We want it to be the top of the Steam charts for many years to come. But Amazon is not coming through on their end of the deal to help us stick around. Many of us have no choice at this point. We are no longer physically able to login the game and play.
