I do apologize about the unexpected experience you had launching your game

It seems many players are currently facing the same issue, servers just went live, this sort of errors while trying to log in are expected due to the fact many people will try to hop back in the game simultaneously.

Can you take a look at your task manager if New World is being run x2?

If the x2 is referring to 2 new world clients being open, no.

Now, what I lately saw is everyone giving an time frame for about 10 to 20 mins

By any change can you hold on the title screen for 15 mins?

Also, Just FYI windows had a update when I shut my pc off around 2AM PST

So far, none official commutation has come out yet,

Ok, yeah I don’t recall getting a update passed through for steam.
Unless it ninja updated while I was away, which steam likes to do randomly sometimes.

I never physically hit update, and loaded the game. No update was present before launching the game. As it usually is with any new world update.
No changes have been made with steam configuration since the launch of the game, and I’ve went through all settings to force updates… and still no update is available. Double confirming the steam client is up to date.

In the meantime, lets try this quick workaround:

Quit New World
Force stop steam
Then run steam as administrator
Open New World back again

How to run an app as administrator:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for the app that you want to run elevated.
  3. Right-click the top result, and select Open file location. …
  4. Right-click the app shortcut and select Properties.
  5. Click on the Shortcut tab.
  6. Click the Advanced button.
  7. Check the Run as administrator option.
  8. Click the OK button.
  9. Click the Apply button.
  10. Click the OK button.

Open up Steam again and try to run New World

Did all that, no change, no update available. same error.
Restarted PC also.

I fixed this issue.

Right click New World in steam
Properties
Local Files
Hit Verify integrity of game files… (Let it run)
After:

Patch downloads, etc.

Can confirm, verifying integrity of game files fixed the issue, but it downloaded a 30gb file, yuck! Does work though!

Can also confirm this forced a game update. Hopefully this will work for me as well. Thank you for the post.

This did force another update for the Winter activities. Able to login now.
