Craft your BIS peice for 2.1 Million coin, or get increadibly fed up with gathering

Introduction:

I am a regular poster on this forum when it comes to crafting. My first post assessed the nature of random perk rolls and demonstrated that it would take 30 years, or 30 million coins to craft some “BIS” items. My following post assessed the changes AGS implemented to “perk chances” and demonstrated that crafting some BIS items now only took 1.6 years, and 5.8 million coins. The two posts have been linked below:

Post 2:

Now, AGS have made new changes to crafting, by introducing GOLDEN SCARABS to the game, and they have had a massive impact on crafting in general.

This post looks at:

  • How players optimize their crafts using specific perks
  • The price difference of 2 crafting options
  • The money it would cost to craft the gear you want.

‘’’ 1. What do I want to craft ‘’’

I want to craft a medium chest with Constitution and the following perks:

  • Shirking fortification
  • Freedom
  • Resilient

Crafting chance

since the introduction of scarabs to the game, crafters now how different options when it come sto choosing which perks they will lock. Here, I will look at 2 options:

Option 1

Each perk as a different chance of rolling on an item. To make sure that I have the best chance of crafting this item, I should use perk mods to lock the two rarest perks, and lets “RNG” roll the third desired perk. Lets call this example “Option 1”

  • Shirking fortification (2.33%) (Lock)
  • Freedom (4.89%) (Lock)
  • Resilient (14.68%)

Note: all percentage values taken from Infused Leather Coat - Item - New World Database

If I craft this way, I will have a 1/6 chance of crafting a legendary item, and a 14.86% chance of my third perk being resilient. Mathematically , it looks like this:

1/6 x 0.1486 = 0.0247

I have a 2.46% chance of crafting the BIS gear that I want using this option. On average, 1 in 41 crafts would be successful.

Option 2

Sometimes, people will instead craft with what they can afford, instead of the most optimal craft sets. Lets call this option 2. In this case our math’s looks a little different:

  • Shirking fortification (2.33%)
  • Freedom (4.89%) (Lock)
  • Resilient (14.68%) (Lock)

If I craft this way, I will have a 1/6 chance of crafting a legendary item, and a 2.33% chance of my third perk being Shirking Fortification. Mathematically , it looks like this:

1/6 x 0.0233 = 0.00388

I have a 0.388% chance of crafting the BIS gear that I want using this option. On average, 1 in 257 crafts would be successful.

2.The Price of crafting

I will use prices from my own server (Eridu, AP southeast) to calculate the cost of conducting a single craft:

Option 1

1 x golden scarab ($3,700)

3 x Timeless Shards ($650)

1 x Squirming Vines ($22,000)

1 x Freedom ($19,500)

25 x Iron guardsman insignia ($30)

1 x Asmodeum ($250)

12 x Phoenixweave ($120)

22 x Runic Leather ($150)

Total cost of 1 craft = $52,890

Total cost of 41 crafts = $2,168,490 coins

Option 2

1 x golden scarab ($3,700)

3 x Timeless Shards ($650)

1 x resilient ($65)

1 x Freedom ($19,500)

25 x Iron guardsman insignia ($30)

1 x Asmodeum ($250)

12 x Phoenixweave ($120)

22 x Runic Leather ($150)

Total cost of 1 craft = $30,955

Total cost of 257 crafts = $7,955,435

Conclusion

I was optimistic when I heard that scarabs would be added to the game. AGS have given players more control over their crafts, which is great, but they have done so by demand more time and resources from them. Players still need all the usual resources, only now they need more timeless shards, more perk mods and a scarab. This increased time and resource demand has caused the cost of crafting to lift way beyond the affordability of the average player.

The increased resource demand has made scarce resources (such as squirming vines) so expensive that only the wealthiest of players can afford to craft with them. Consequentially, less and less players are crafting, and very little gear is being added to the market.

in my opinion, Crafting has taken a step backwards. Giving players more control over their crafts, while demanding more time and resource from them, has made crafting such an elite activity that the average player is forced to either ignore it, or dream about it.

There are many solutions to this problem

  1. Increase resource supply, or decrease resource demand. As supply meets demand, prices reduce. This will result in more frequent crafts, more abundant BIS gear, and a better distribution of crafting wealth. I would recommend increasing drop rates or timeless shards, scarabs, squirming vines and freedom perk mods

  2. Improve “Bind on Pickup” crafting. Currently, only the most wealthy players can afford to craft, because wealthy players have set the price of limiting perks. By ensuring that BOP crafts have rare perks such as “shirking fortification” pre-locked, players have an option to craft gear for themselves without spending hundreds of thousands of coins on those perk mods. BOP gear is great because it can be limited by completely different resources to those that limit normal crafting. e.g. Runic-stop-watches.

I hope you have found this post thougth provoking. Please let me know your thought.

I crafted about 27 with freedom+shirking fort. I got one legendary but was not resil.
It might sounds stupid but crafting max 3 at a time because of the azoth cap seems to lower your chances.

Its even worst crafting a PVE armor piece since patch 1.6 and they need 4 sets!
