Foreword: The current state of crafting is commonly referred to as gambling, gamba, or rolling. This is certainly no joke even with the introduction of Golden Scarabs. While “Best in Slot” pieces are highly sought after commodities, they should not also be as rare as they seemingly are. Such to the point that many players are transferring servers at their own cost simply to buy said “Best in Slot” pieces.
While rarity or scarcity in a game often motivates a player to keep playing, this should not effect a players ability to compete with other players in Wars, Outpost Rush, or Expeditions.
Suggestion:
New World has introduced an opportunity for crafters with its recent addition of Trophy Shards (i.e. Ephemeral Seal, Glowing Sap Shard, Ancient Mandible Shard). The main feature that was introduced was the ability to craft a trophy using materials gathered in the open world that serves a singular purpose.
Proposal: The ability to have trophies that guarantee the third perk
This idea shares similarities with my other forum post (My proposal to solve Trophy Material economy - essentially making trophies “Bind on Placement”).
In this scenario however, players will be able to Farm “tokens” to then have them turned into a Bind on Pickup Trophy which guarantees them a third perk whilst crafting (assuming they are using a golden scarab).
Considerations:
- The demand for the materials needed may skyrocket initially
Obvious Problems:
- Legendary refined resources may lose value: This may be true to some extent. Currently prices are only so high because players are constantly rolling gear at a chance for BiS. If a player was given the opportunity for farm their own BiS, this will eliminate their need to buy large amounts of crafting materials. However, with the methods I will explain later, it will still not be an easy path to BiS, and players may still want to risk rolling their gear in saving time.
Scenario:
- One of the most sought after perks while rolling is Resilient, being a PvP only perk. If the player wishes to assign this perk to a trophy, they will need to:
- Complete 150-200 tracks in PvP (the numbers are an example, but the requirement should be high)
- Collect x (around 150-200) amount of Chunk of Consecrated Iron
- Craft or buy a Major Armoring Trophy (for this example)
- Bring all required materials to their Faction representative. The representative will have an option in their shop to “Redeem” a trophy.
– A crafting window will pop up where the player chooses the Trophy and the Perk they wish to assign
– The player can craft the trophy at the cost of 30,000 Azoth Salt (for PvP specific perks), which will then be bound to them.
Problems:
– The amount of Consecrated Iron seems unnecessary but was included to illustrate the scenario
– The amount of Azoth Salt seems unnecessary, but by the time you reach PvP track 100 your accumulated Azoth salt is usually spent on Umbral Shards, Gypsum Orbs, Potion packs, Champions Jewellery, Emotes, or the odd randomly generated 3-perk item that may be feasible in PvP.
– The market for BiS will decline: This suggestion is only an alternative that will take the player a considerable time to achieve. The player may see more benefit in taking their chances rolling gear or buying from other players to save time.
Benefits:
– I believe this will serve as an alternative to constantly gambling away gold and resources on BiS items. While money may be lost on the top end from Tier V refined resources, the need for trophies, and the materials needed to make them will increase. The player will also need to craft the item themselves, so money can instead be made supplying the craft-levelling market.
– The time taken to farm one of these trophies (and ultimately the BiS item) should amount to the same time needed to gather materials for a crafting session in the current game (assuming the player is not buying gold)
TLDR: Provide a suitable alternative method to guarantee a 3rd perk for crafting, which only produces bind on pickup items.
