I’m levelling weaponsmithing, currently skill level 85 ish. Every few levels I unlock a new recipe, but when I check the resources needed, it makes more sense to keep crafting iron swords, as they give more xp for each resource. My smithing skill is levelling much faster than my weaponsmithing skill, since I use iron for so many other things than weaponsmithing, so the extra xp I would get to smelt iron into steel isn’t enough to warrant making steel swords instead of iron swords, as the cost in resources to make steel swords is higher per xp gained than iron swords.
This leads me to craft hundreds of iron swords in order to level weaponsmithing, and never changing this when I unlock steel sword, or later derivatives. Perhaps this calculation changes once I level up and get access to better flux, but so far at level 40, I haven’t gotten much of that yet. I am also getting loads of weapon drops from mobs that far outclass whatever I can craft at the skill level I’m currently at, which also fills the tradeing post with similar items, devaluing anything I craft to much less than resource costs, further incentivising just crafting iron swords and salvaging them.
Apart from the town quests, the only weaponsmithing I am doing at the moment is iron swords, and from the looks of it, it is what I will be doing until lvl 200. This feels boring and levelling it up along the way feels unrewarding. The crafting system has so much more going for it, but stuff like this is holding it back.
If there is something I’ve misunderstood, please tell me, cause I’m all for learning more about it.
On our server I dont see the point in crafting anything else than the most basic stuff, our levels are way ahead of all crafting options available.
Im at skinning and chopping 200 but neither cant use the leather nor the wood, also no one is buying it, so i can either stuff my storages or simply dont collect it anymore.
Just to add to this, I can’t believe within the interface I can’t see both the level required AND the xp I will get for crafting it, maybe even by a tooltip once I hover over the item? Instead I have to go sort it by the XP given and lose the knowledge of what level it takes to craft everything in the process (until I re-sort it by level)
I agree 100% with what you said. I was big into crafting on day one then realized the gear was useless, I get better potions and gear by spamming Amrine and making money is way more viable when you just flip starter matts on the Trading Post. Crafting feels like a chore that could have been way better.
Also, please Amazon… make the expedition orbs tradable… people are just selling runs instead of the orb. I’d rather buy the orb for myself then pay the guy who owns it to run with me…
Yes the loot rain is killing crafting. But what else could they do when they’ve put in this system that requires you to scrap things to repair your gear constantly. Imagine if it didn’t rain loot. We’d all have red gear.
I don’t mean that the loot should keep falling from the sky. Instead make repairing less dependent on it plz Amazon.
