I will say the nerfs opened me up to try new things…and I leveled up void gauntlet this weekend and really enjoy it. Lower DPS when you look at it on paper, but so much debuff/AOE damage while being able to hit multiple targets at once. That and the HoT survivability and the fortifying. It’s fun as hell and I can just jump into groups of mobs wearing light armor.
This doesn’t mean anything.
It’s TRUE, but the problem is MUCH worse than this indicates.
Lots of people mastered many other weapons… That doesn’t mean they use them. MOST people with GA Do use it… Most people with Hatchet DO NOT USE IT.
Didn’t read this whole thread but I’ve been playing opr a lot with fire/ice and I have to say that it seems balanced. Heavy attks that use no mana being spammed, along with fireball and pof, switch out to IG and CC dude you can seriously put out some pressure with a good build. Over extend and then get out with burnout. There is a hell of a lot of utility and damage with FS/IG. A completely non biased opinion here… Its balanced. If it needs tweaking its not more than 5% on one thing or another.

If you lack GA hammer experience, don’t run the war build, run the bloodlust build.
You really only need one trick for GA. When medium rolls, just left click. Save your dodges for dodging important abilities like musket trap, light attack rapier riposte and dodging to the side, etc.
For light armor and magic, when they roll dodge forward then light attack, it does the same distance. They only have 2 dodges and you have 3, so always save your third for ice shower and let your lunge do the work for you.
Once you’ve figured out how to stick onto someone abusing the lunge, it’s hilariously easy to kill literally everyone but other GA/Hammer users.
The only other 3 issues you will have is diving 1 v 10 and getting blown up for bad positioning, earning your gap close on ranged users by learning how to “draw the stick” and “serpentine.,” and what the heck to do with all those abilities when you get to win by shift left clicking.
Hint, I stack lifesteal and lifesteal on ability usage and use them to full heal when I get to 50%.
I totally agree with Psymon, Mages are designer to deal damage. Thats literally all they have going for them. The trade off is that they are squishy. Their offense is there defense and when you take away that there is nothing left. I could see if the devs gave you some kitting or stay alive spells, but if you look at the skill tree its all crit and damge, mixed with mana control. Honestly, so sick of players accusing high Dps classes as noobs, especially mages. Everyone has a choice to pick what class they want to play. THats why they made classes because they are each unique in there own way. I think if everyone just stuck to the purpose of there class instead of wanting to have the best of everything. OMG mages have High DPS good thats what there suppose to do. JUst like healers heal and tanks tank. Its the palyers who all of a sudden realize they want to dps with a class clearly designed for other purposes, that start all the whinning. I dont see too many mages crying for more health. It is what it is. You chose that class and thats what you get. Know just because tanks want to be on top of the dps board all hell breaks loose and everyone should be nerfed. Maybe if players would stick to the purpose of there class mages would not be such a problem. At this point lets get rid of classes make everone have the same dps and every man for themselves. Thats what the whinners want. Stay in your own lane and I am sure each class will be a lot more balanced then u think . But since Dps at one point wasnt the top of your choice and now it is, we must nerf everyone into existence. Give melee better attacks to close the gaps against range, anything but nerf a class that literally only relies Dps. It makes no sense. Play your class dont blame devs because your class cant do what everbody elses does. I hope Devs give incentive to the top healers, top tankers and top Dps, it might help players realize thier value to the team
What’s the point in giving Ice Mages CC that is on such a long cooldown its useless, and fire mage burn out that doesn’t get you far enough away from an Axer to do anything?
Mages effectively have ZERO CC, and the lowest damage in the game to single targets…
I agree I think its more or less live to fight another day type of thing, in regards to CC. Or at least that was there intention. Without anything to help mages mitigate damage there class is useless.
