I see people begs for server merges but nothing happens after 1, 2, 3 weeks of begging, sometimes merges are month late. Are they waiting for people to buy transfers as much as possible?
I was wondering if AGS is doing it on purpose and the game that supposed to be survival that they converted into MMO wannabe with 2.5k cap is used as a aspect of money making because their reactions are obviously too slow in this aspect.
It is 100% a “low priority” item because it makes money.
Foolish to think there isnt someone at AGS trying to determine how long they can wait where transfer income is still > lost income from quitting players.
I am going to assume they have a metric that if X players are not logged on over the course of Y time that a server merge will be considered viable.
The question is how low does that number have to get consistently to activate the red flag in the metric to merge.
Also… YES, I would say part of the reason they don’t merge servers is they would like Players to pay them money for something that costs them little to nothing to do… This isn’t like they had to invest time into creating something new like a skin pack… this is just flat out moving data from one file to another for a cost.
Also for some reason investors and the industry in general perceive merges as “Game is on its death knell” So devs like to hold out as long as they can before they do this, because Social media will make a big stink about it… and you will see articles like “IS NEW WORLD DEAD ALREADY …AGAIN?!” <— not good Marketing / PR
You mean cause the game itself costs $19.99 on sale and never asks anyone for a dime more for a fully accessible Mmo? and… you are supposed to give them another $15 if you wanted to do a server transfer? the horror…
The irony.
The game never asks for more money, it just becomes unplayable if you dont transfer.
If this was true they’d have opened transfers between and off of FSS by now.
Is it fraud to market a game as a mmo, but then spread players out over too many servers and force them to pay again for access to the MMO?
Well i think so.
Servers should be evaluated over the 30-day mark at the very bare minimum.
I mean I’d rather just pay a monthly a fee and get quality updates. Buying transfers every 1-3 months because US-W keeps dying and getting revived after every bad/good update is getting pretty annoying.
Whatever the case may be, we need to make sure we keep demanding fresh start servers, pvp servers, race servers, mount-access servers, and whatever other slight modifications the game might need so that we can convince ourselves we’ll actually enjoy it this time around.
There is absolutely no way population division and the prevalence of server merger woes have anything to do with each other.
If someone has paid to transfer from one server to another and then that server gets merged into the one they came from, AGS should give them a free transfer token.
If someone wants to gamble and spend some money go farm on a dead server then gets mad when it gets merged in weeks… Then that’s on them.
Low pop servers eventually die off from lack of town owners who then let their stations degrade. What’s the point in going to farm 24/7 on a server where you can’t do anything with the stuff you farm?
Maybe AGS should put a warning on people who willing go to dead servers to farm that there is a HUGE chance that there will may be a merge. I guess some people need their hands held when doing something silly.
I know it’s really hard to imagine people might view things differently than you do.
Can you imagine that some people might like the concept of a small community that works together to pay to keep the towns running rather than living under overlords whose profits from wealthy settlements allow them to maintain a gear edge that gives them a monopoly on the whole war aspect of the game?
They are going to be slow this round… They merged way to fast over the summer and it lead to some massive ques, and players that did not want to drop 15$ to transfer to avoid the que… That 15$ adds up when you are talking about moving a whole company.
