Dark Souls Raid Groups?

I think this game needs to have 10 man raid groups, which is easier because you just combine 2 groups, and makes the content accessible to most people and casuals.

KISS - Keep It Super Simple.

20 man raid groups could be raid mutators aka heroic version for hardcore raiders.

It’s important though that copy pasta is eliminated from this game, and these raids gotta have unique monsters to really be special. All with new attack patterns and mechanics for boss fights.

Their whole combat and story teams need to just get inspiration from these games and New World will be one of the best MMORPG’s in history.

These are in no particular order.

  1. Dark Souls Franchise
  2. Elden Ring
  3. Bloodborne
  4. Sekiro
  5. Monster Hunter

If New World can become an MMORPG in the Souls Like genre it will be solid and be able to survive a long time.

bump @Luxendra I know this seems kind of dumb and repetitive but it is the key to New Worlds success past the 2-3 year mark.

Making 20 man raid groups the start is a mistake.

Art team and variety in game will solidify New World in the marketplace

It’s ironic.

Most of the people looking for large-scale encounters won’t be good enough to complete them if they’re any difficult, so the raids will naturally have to be toned way down for accessibility.

I never get the reason why people came to the conclusion that Raids had to be harder than normal party size content.

Every MMO I play that has Raids, always have it as the most difficult content, but for once I would like the Raid content to be for the casuals and the Party dungeons stay for the hardcore.

There is already more Casuals than Hardcore players, so my logic here stands well.

It’s a natural progression.

There’s limitations to how difficult they can make an encounter without making it mathematically impossible.

The thing is, the less players needed to clear it, the less demanding the encounter is on an execution level. Finding 5 good players that can execute difficult mechanics is a lot easier than finding 20.

There still needs to be an accessibility aspect, but the surest way to pseudo-inflate difficulty is by increasing the number of players required to kill things as that increases the likelihood of mistakes.

Not really true at all, a 5 player encounter can be harder than a 20 player encounter because there is far less room for mistakes if you are just playing with 5 players. One or two dead players could already mean the end of the try.

Just look at Lost Ark, the 4 player raid is harder then the raids with 8 players before it because one fuckup and you are already missing to many players.

Its always depends how a developer designs the encounter, but just because you have more players doesnt mean it has to be harder.

And that exact same logic can be applied to a 20man raid. It’s all about how they tune the numbers.

Any level of difficulty for an encounter can be made harder by increasing the number of players required to kill it.

Notice, not number of players allowed in a group, but the number of players REQUIRED to kill it.

In basically every MMO, difficulty is scaled DOWN based on number of players involved to account for the increased mistake probability.

In your Lost Ark scenario they could simply tune the boss up to require all 8 people to be alive and it would be far more difficult than a 4 man version.

Excatly, but your reasoning was that more players = harder.

Bless your heart.

Do you really think I meant to stick 20 people in a 5 man encounter and change nothing?

I keep forgetting that there are people from all sorts of backgrounds on here.

Tomato Tomatoe , but Halycon is right, main point is they can scale it to be easier or harder.

mechanics with 20 people all needing to be on the same page is harder because you need to manage more people.

@Knighthonor raids are the hardest because that’s just how MMOs are. Imagine if fighting the worm in Brimstone was casual content. That’s the equivalent of saying you want a legendary monster boss battle to be easy it simply cannot be and does not fit the genre kr standard people expect of raiding.

that casual content is reserved for base level dungeons and low level mutations

This game would fail miserably if it introduces souls-like mechanics

Just look how AGS had to remove 1-shot mechanics from some guardian raids in lost ark because people can’t be bothered to learn mechanics, let alone use any kind of consumable…

Failed stagger check? Monster enrage and is a wipe…

Failed to remove those debuff stack? 1-shot is your prize

People cried that Sekiro needed an easy mode!

I love the genre but the amount of skill and determination needed to complete those games is something that not many people have… that’s why is a niche genre…. rightfully beloved but niche!

maybe if a couple of expeditions were released with that kind of gameplay it would be fine but, the whole game? naaaah

I didnt said that, but you said that a raid with more player can have more complex mechanics which isnt true at all. Atleast that what this means to me: "The thing is, the less players needed to clear it, the less demanding the encounter is on an execution level. "

Show me where I said that.

Quote it.

Yes, 5 people executing mechanics is easier to accomplish than 20 people.

What’s so hard about that to understand?

So i thought that depends on how they design the raid? Now its again more players = harder? The thing is with 20 people there is far more room for mistakes compared to just 5 players.

Just look at the old raids with 40 or more players where only half of them really needed to be good because there was enough room for mistakes.

Only if they make the encounter intentionally easier to accommodate those mistakes.

Which is the whole point if you took the time to read and process the information.

It’s no wonder AGS has to keep dumbing things down.

You’re thinking too small unfortunately.

There is nothing like a Dark Souls MMO,

They could have very easily implemented varying difficulties in dungeons such as WoW.

Normal>Heroic>Mythic.

Without challenge many things are worthless

And why are you ingoring the fact that i stated that in my first post that it depends on how a developer design the mechanics? You are just repeating my statement.

Because you are saying less people like in Lost Ark raids the 4 man is harder than the 8 man.

All Halycon is trying to say is that it’s relative just like you are but it is objective fact that getting 20 people on the same page is harder than just 4.

Especially if there are multiple mechanisms requiring coordination among the 20, instead of just meme tank and spanks

@Valdaran

But in most raids i played with 20 players or more there were far more room for mistakes, one player dying didnt mean the end of the raid in most cases.

I would totally agree if ALL 20 players needs to perform good/perfectly but that is rarely the case.

In Mythic hardcore WoW raids if one person in the 20 man messes up it’s a wipe.

for normals and heroics even you are correct
