Death of a Game: New World

New guy. May not be permanent but he’s the interim. Sometimes interim becomes permanent. Hard guy to research Christoph hartmann

Thanks!

He does have some experience in game development, that’s obvious.

Watch how fast the forum trolls disagree.

I look forward to seeing Christoph Hartmann in action, CAN’T be any worse then Mike Frazzini ffs, no way POSSIBLE and from what little I read, he has some good game hits under his belt so even though this patch SUCKS (Let’s be real all, it does), I can’t WAIT for Chris to step in

Disagree on what, he was needed 2 or 3 years ago before they made awful choices and turned this game into what it has become now.

He can have as much experience as possible, it won’t change the fate of this game. By the time his changes would make it to live this game already was shut down.

Too little too late.

i probably should have said something more along the lines of “state a negative opinion” and there you did.

Ok

The setting of this game is different from WoW but the level of detail in harvesting is the same - hit ‘e’ and wait. Typically survival harvesting is more active, a-la The Forest tree chopping or voxel-base mining. Just playing the game would be great, if AGS didn’t decide to destroy armor sets that folks have spent hundreds of thousands of coin on.

Shit, they released new PvE content into the game but left it to the RNG mutation generator to decide who gets to play it. They didn’t post the “starting” and "stopping messages for this major Areana update, just the downtime. These problems have been visible for awhile now with the decreasing content in the Dev Videos, up to this last one not addressing any of the Forums hot posts or anything new.

Just play the game doesn’t keep high player populations, but AGS made high player populations critical to their game design.

They should have taken notes from Final Fantasy XIV.

Oh i love what you mean about the recolecting systems. But i wouldn’t say that’s something to criticize. Like if they were to have a more active recolecting system i would be ok with it but you have to think that games like forest or rust have first persone and you can aim where to chop and that kind of stuff. You would have to make masive changes for something that’s not imperative. You have the recolecting system of an mmo, and the variety of recolection of survivals, i dont feel like they should mix things more.

But yea, the mistakes have made them take awful decisions like the one you mentioned, and remember the one that they freezed the market and trades? but all of those come from trying to fix bugs. Which means that the main problems it’s not the direction, they shouldn’t copy anything, it’s the code.

I saw that vid, I think its pretty good but over complicates something very basic. The issue was and still is there are only 3 ways to effectively raise gear score…chest runs, laz and gen. All pve. So many level 60s try to come back and have low to mid 500 GS. Then once they realize they are faced with hours upon hours of 1 of 3 things, they say no thanks. Especially once they realize its just a mutator grind once they do hit 60. Saving the game is easy, add catch up mechanics, a shop token to buy to raise gs by 10 levels and start allocating the largest amount of gs bumps AND umbrals to opr and arenas and open world pvp kills. Ags has never given pvp activities a substantial amount of gs upgrades or umbrals. Opr umbrals are a joke a gs bumps few and far between. It needs to change if they want players to come back.

They could scale OPR umbral rewards on wins to average GS. Since it’s availability is much much higher in comparison to dungeons, a 625 should not get 6k, but maybe 2k? That’s still 5 OPR to max out one piece from 600 to 625, 50 OPR per set seems fair to me AFTER you’ve already gained 625.

100 at 600 GS
500 at 610 GS
1000 at 620 GS
2000 at 625 GS

It would be balanced. For easy implimentation just make it an OPR Cast and it uses your accounts average expertise based on 2 highest weapons as to not convolute the use of it.

Also… 500 to 600 should be part of the main story, the journey from well guardian to tempest should be around 500 to 550 GS and why can you 500 to 600 with orbs when you’re weapon level is 1? They should give exp too. Forcing a dumb weapon exp grind seems unnecessary. Just let the players get to 600 and be apart of the game.

The entire playerbase is 615+ and just causes any new players to quit. Why make new players have such a harsh intro? If you want 500 to 600 expertise then make it easy and fast. Max of a week to grind imo.

Why does it take more OPR gypsum to make an orb?

I came back to find only 4 servers left on west and free transferred to my toon to the least populated choice. I didn’t come back to participate in “New World”; I came back to kill time/gather without bots. I used to kill time in blizzard f2p games but the meta BS they revolve around just gets me sick in minutes/uninstall. This will be my goto kill time do nothing game on an empty server.

I saw the game die minutes into launch as the bots started spamming gold dot com sales. Mega clans exploiting/domination. Mass cheats/exploits/dups, all unaccounted for and AGS kept moving on as if any of this was not just a total fail to their game design. We were sold one thing at launch and well we all saw the horse picture.

New World always sucked as a game. They had to try to sell it as community content game because they had no content or working mechanics. What worked (gathering/crafting) wasn’t intended as game content. Just a sneaky gimmick time filler.

And the GS gated content coupled with PvP cross-faction shit kills any sense of community . People just can’t find anything to do anymore in “NewWorld” …there is no real content to keep people playing , and it shows .

Sadly that’s what many haters and lovers here alike fall for it. Of course that’s a click bait, NW should introduce some click baits too for fishing in this regard. Perhaps, instead of ALL arguing who has a bigger dick here OR A vs B vs C trying to prove next fella wrong and be the most righteous, we could all put this energy in thinking how to improve the game instead ??? Crucifying a game that is ONLY 7 months old … (Who would do that? Apparently many XD)… why not just rationally put your energy in helping to improve the game?
Rome was once one big empire in the world, then it saw its demise, inevitably natural occurrence like with many other great MMOs. However, instead of crucifying a premature game that is ONLY 7 months old, rationally together let’s put your energy towards improving the game. Perhaps some could seat here all day long, for weeks, for months, for years and still bitching, moaning, complaining how bad or incomplete the game is without making a single positive contribution ever.

Speaking in trying to improve the game, this one goes for my fella Fishermen, if you have any improvement ideas and not death sentences XD, please head to [Fishing Department Improvements / Enhancements - Game Feedback / Game Feedback - New World Forums] and help make a difference with some positive contributions: (Fishing Department Improvements / Enhancements) . Ah yes! For the rippers, name callers, etc, you are also welcome if you have any great giant leap ideas for us Fishermen.

Peace out

I’m amazed it’s still going. I guess we keep feeding it, pointlessly. It has little merit.

IMHO re: nerdslayers vid…

Although he was one of the earliest testers, his summary on why the game is ‘dying’ had some contradictory statements and he clearly became disillusioned from the game a little after the launch, missing all the positive changes made so far and opting to just do a ‘controversy headline’ play by play for the history of the game post launch.

But did make some good salient points on the lack of MMO experience and research done by AGS.

No MMO is perfect, and trying to make a persistent MMORPG as one of your first games as a new games studio is literally the hardest thing you can possibly do. Plus the Amazon name polarises people for and against you immediately.

  • Has AGS fucked up when making and supporting New World? Of course Yes, many times.
  • Are they improving? yeah they seem to be, albeit slowly.

Some of their long standing beliefs i feel are erroneous are being eroded away bit by bit and i feel they’re realising that those beliefs are only propped up by survivorship bias.

But from a pure resource capacity to continue and fix / replace / implement new systems to make the game better theres very few in the gaming space that can do it somewhat free from investor profit pressure, the scourge of a 3rd party publisher forcing gameplay and monetisation issues and profit margin outsourcing to literal sweatshop crunchfest faceless studios grinding out new fresh faced talent in the asias, eastern europe and southern americas.

It took nearly an entire year, thousands of replies, many 10’s of thousands of views (about 70k total between beta and post launch), and dozens of CM/Dev call outs to get a response to my combat thread which started back in Beta, which itself was a continuation of a thread started in Alpha. Most of the CMs here are not good at their jobs and only go for low hanging fruit. Shadow_Fox is one of few exceptions who actually does a great job.

This is nothing. :stuck_out_tongue:
