Dec update response

Did I miss the part where everyone current WM gets reset ?

Yeah same GS but works as if its a 520 GS

No you missed the part where all gear scales to your watermark.

That is true, but there is also multiple types of gypsum. there is nothing in those notes that state that they all make the same orb. What’s the point in having different types of gypsum if they all craft the same orb. why not just make them all generic gypsum with varying drop amounts instead of having different types. Wont know until looking into the PTR but I assume this is intended to allow different types of orbs to be made. IE: Onyx gypsum orb, Emerald Gypsum Orb. This seems a more reasonable assumption to make for why the different types than all gypsum types make the same orb. or at bare minimum could be implemented fairly easily to alleviate our concerns

I think part of this change is to prevent people from switching to servers with a better economy to gear up. They want to lock you at your WM so that it’s not viable to do. They will enable purchase of transfers after it happens IMO.

It’s a completely different thing to lower the GS of the weapon (your statement) to cap down its effective GS to the expertise, which you can improve.

Here’s some questions i have for the dev team to think about:

Do members of the staff play this game in the sense of participating in daily activities as a normal, somewhat casual player with a daily playtime of less than 5 hours?

Do you have any idea how hard the game ALREADY is for those who don’t spend all day on this game even without these new changes?

Do you understand that the changes that you are about to make will be devastating to those who don’t have the time or the means (server population etc) to do the majority of activities that will grant an increase to expertise?

You say you want to endorse PvP while in fact you are doing the complete opposite. Not everyone has the time or even wants to go through MONTHS of boring PvE content before being able to keep up with people who spend all day playing. Leveling to 60 was already tedious enough, now you make us go through 100 more levels for EVERY single gear slot AND every single weapon?
Ask yourself if you would do it and how long it would take you if you were a casual player in your own game.

Please for the sake of the community and this game: Stop locking everything that is even remotely fun behind mindless PvE timegate activities that make this buggy mess of a game even less fun than it already is.

Some of yall just dont get it. You can try and sell us the idea of syrups, gypsums, magic orbs and talking tress but you will literally never sell us on the idea of taking our progress. So you can spin it however you want but thats not a pill I will ever swallow. Not ever.

This is speculation and I don’t think it will be the case, but people who only worked on craft will take a hit.

the note says you can only craft one gypsum of any type per day

"Note you can only craft any type of Cast, once per day. "
from

dev blog has more complete info than the websites notes

We already improved it friend.

How? Nothing is changing. You are going to be in the exact same spot as you are now. They aren’t replacing the HWM system, they are just renaming it and adding in an actual automatic way to track it. People who grinder their watermark vs people who just crafted or bought gear are going to be in the same exact position as they are now.

I know that people do not like the fact that gear will downscale to your personal watermark but I also understand why something like this needed to happen.

As the game matures and those who grind GS start dropping endgame 600 GS items, those who are fresh 60s will be able to, more and more, afford best in slot, 600 GS items by buying them off of the trading post. This eliminates the need to do any end game content or any content for that matter.

And I know that this upcoming system comes with many cons, like the one most people are talking about, and that is that if you went the crafting route in order to get yourself the end game gear rather than mindlessly farm watermark every day this system would destroy the game for you and your business.

A compromise for those who went the crafting route for gearing rather than GS farming could be to make it so that when you craft something, you can choose to make it as BoP for yourself which will make the item not downscale to your watermark or make it as a BoE that you can sell / give and have it downscale based on the wearer’s watermark.

No they wont. Someone who grinded their watermark can keep their 600 gear and people who grinded mats and make theirs will have 600 gs gear thats is only 500 gs gear.

Gypsum can be crafted into Gypsum Orbs, which can then be turned into
special caches called Gypsum Casts. Gypsum Casts are gear type specific
and when opened guarantee an Expertise bump.

Engaging in these activities for 30-60 minutes a day will earn players
enough Gypsum of that type to craft a Gypsum Orb (except for Topaz
since the Attunement potion can only be crafted once a week).

After players have earned sufficient Gypsum for an Orb, they
won’t earn more for 23 hours

So one orb a day… independent of the source of Gypsum. Which can be used on a single slot.

Serious issue I have here. Spent a ton of time to level crafting. I play a very Niche paladin tank build that runs off buff mitigation. Requires building custom armor and Laz/Gen armor is one of the only ways to do this and its still at a high cost. Now every bit of this armor is going to be nerfed.

Not every crafter pumped tons of money into a set of voidbent when they hit 60 and started wrecking end game. I’ve have spent tons of time in Elite zones but As a tank running custom armor I do not wear much luck gear unlike everyone else running VB and getting mountains of drops because I need to do my job properly and tank using the correct set of armor.

On top of this in smaller pop servers we are not 20+ man zerging these zones in a loop so we dont have HWM drops raining from heaven.

Not really, players who focused on crafting and not HWM, let’s say for example were using GS600, it was working as GS600. If their HWM is 520, after patching the GS600 gear they crafted or bought will work as GS520 until they work on expertise.

There is no denying it’s a hit and a loss, but IMO, in the long run, it will be beneficial to all and we don’t even know how hard will be to level up expertise.

people who crafted or bought gear will have their gear effectiveness reduced to their expertise level

Put this all into context.

Think of any other game which relies on progress and watch what happens to their player base if their Dev Team brought out a PTR which says we are taking progression away from most of the Player Base involving hundreds of hours.

See what happens.
