Awesome news everyone!
The BIG change
In early 2022, when we start reducing the effectiveness of gear to your Expertise level, we will exempt the following items:
100% this. If AGS didn’t want gathering and crafting to have value, they never should have added them. The way this is going they gave us this option, and then pulled the rug out from underneath us because that’s the avenue of the game we wanted to play.
If I’m throwing 40k+ gold at attempting to craft armor, I’d really like to get some of that back by selling the not-quite-what-I-want options. Then I can take that money and buy out the TP again, and go on another crafting session. This creates demand, and keeps the economy of the game flowing. They want me to just burn my money and it all be worthless if I don’t craft exactly what I want, which is absolute nonsense.
Did you read the update where they pretty much said crafted items wont be downgraded or any gear purchased before the patch
The feedback has been received =)
I’m glad it was. Considering there was overwhelming disapproval at least we know that plan won’t go live.
I still need more clarification to that post. Is it only gear you craft yourself that doesn’t get downgraded? If so, that does NOT fix the issue. I’m armor/JC, I have a friend who is furnishing/weaponsmith and another who is engineer/arcana. My weaponsmith is a mage, he needs my crafting skills and our other friend, he can’t craft it himself. Does he need to level his arcana, get the gear and then he can make stuff on his own? Or is all crafted gear now exempt, and it’s just watermarked drops that get downranked on the trading post?
It says “any item you craft” so I don’t think that includes items your friend crafted for you.
Yeah, there are a couple ways to read multiple phrases in the post to make it seem like what I want to see, and still as useless as before. So I need them to clarify this “BIG” update to see if it actually is the one I want to see.
Far from useless as before, now if you put the time and effort in getting crafting up and the ability to craft gs 600 gear you can actually use what you crafted to it’s full effect.
I call that a win.
It’s only a win if you don’t factor in the gigantic loss here. it costs tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, to craft said gear. This change, assuming crafted gear is downranked, means that those costs are pretty much entirely something I need to eat. And some gear you craft is just functionally worthless (like this 600gs gaxe I have that’s DEX/Focus) so it’s at least nice to get mat-cost back on some of the okay rolls. But this change is going to make it so I just expect to blow all that coin and if I don’t get what I want, rip everything. It’ll take so much longer to do crafting sessions, and I’m no longer a big boon to my company if they haven’t been watermarking. And my company is a core of crafters, some of whom really lack in watermarking (richest guy does tons of crafting but is only at like 520ish watermark and really doesn’t care for that process) and this means the patch is a gigantic nerf to how he plays the game. And his response so far is to say he’s going to quit. And this guy is quite literally the biggest mover of the market on my server. He buys all the cooldowns, burns up so many gathering mats from people, and then goes to craft his gear (through another crafter). He may begrudgingly level armoring for this, but he is far more likely to just quit now than he was before this expertise change was going to come.
Yeah that’s what I thought. Not only did they grandfather all existing players gear; they are backpedaling their own decision-making (even thought they thought it was vital) to ALLOW people to still buy high watermark gear and they will only reduce its power to an average instead of lowest watermark on the player…
GG amazon, maybe get a red tape team and some people with brains in those board meetings next time, so we don’t have to change your mind through the forums.
I think you dunno what you are talking about here, crafting with the stat and perk you want will be easier when this hits.
But you don’t just craft for stat and perk, you craft for stat and 3 perks. So there’s still lots of RNG involved. Even if I can now guarantee STR and Crit on a ring, I want to get hearty and lifestealing, too. And it needs to be 600. I know you can get some force 600’s, but there’s still two RNG aspects to factor in even if you do multiple forced 600’s. And in reality you’re still going to be doing 595-600 crafts. So only 1/6 crafts is going to be 600, and you still need 2 perks to roll right. And not being able to sell the crafted gear, even if they’re STR+crit rings, because the gear score doesn’t count for much to buyers, is a huge loss to crafters.
You will be able to sell it - crafted gear retains the GS power. Read the latest post from 4 hours ago.
Yes there will still some element of chance but it wont be as bad as it is now. Crafted gear will be the best way to get cutoms gear that is good for you w/e combo you want.
It wont go down to your expertise score if you craft for yourself and you can still sell it and it will still be good buy in the AH…not everyone want to do crafting so lots will still do the expertise grind so they can get random gear and still buy gear from the AH.
Is sure as hell is better than what they were going to do. Also we still need clarification on if crafter gear being sold in the Ah will stay at its GS or be subject to the expertise rule.
That’s up for interpretation. Because you can read it one way and read it how you are, that crafted gear is 100% immune from the gear score downgrading, but it also states that item are immune until “item is sold/traded”, which means that only your own crafted gear works, and it’ll be downranked for everybody else. that clarification means everything to me and my crafting friends.
Pls read the updated note and relief. You have done it
Devs addressed the big concerns! Great step in the right direction, thanks AGS
