Decorating house freezes/crashes game (video included)

Not sure if its relevant, but it seems worse whilst next to flickering animations
The fires being the biggest and of course any flickering lights inside

Not consistant, sometimes it doesnt freeze, but more often than not it does

I bought a house in the second week after launch, and decorated it with no freezing issues
My freezing issues started after one of the patches…i think ‘possibly’ 1.0.4 patch
This is my experience of it

For me its freezing to and often craft! My fps go bellow 1 when editing my house

Same issue here.

And a couple of friends are haaving the same problem.

My house is the High Tier house in front of the Market in Everfall, at the corner in the main square.

It seems to happen every single time I’m placing objects when I’m inside the house. On the outside I had a couple of crashes, but on the inside happens 100% of the times.

Exactly the same here.

Same problem happening. Same server.

Same issue here…was documented on another thread.

Still experiencing the issue after swapping servers. And I noticed when the freeze happens the items placed (game counter) goes up to over the limit even if you only have a few items in the house.

Thanks for Help/Attention!!!

8:34 pm pacific time crash to desk top trying to decorate everfall house.

Name: Tiberius Rex
server: Caer sidi

it also shows more objects than I have placed as being placed and this problem has been happening every time since I bought the house yesterday.

also I am a west coast american playing on a euro server because that’s wehre my friends are. my normal ping is about 185. but I haven’t had problems with my other two houses. I have experienced some hard core lag spikes in the last week but they were just wandering in the world not housing related. this is definitely related to placing items in the house. input latency counter just stops working at all as well

Experiencing this too when decorating!!!
All my guild mates are experienced.
Also Everfall house.

I seem to have a temporary, albeit limited, workaround for this. This work-around will only allow you to manipulate one object at a time (you need to repeat the process again for each object).

  • get out of decoration mode
  • go to the outside of your house (where you initially entered it)
  • enter decoration mode
  • manipulate only one object
  • exit decoration mode
  • return to the entry point but do not exit your house (exiting not required)
  • enter decoration mode and repeat for next object
Note: manipulation also includes picking up an object. Basically, never interact with more than one object from the point you enter decoration mode to the point you close it again and you should be able to use the mode. Just remember to return to the entry point each time you exit and re-enter decoration mode.

cheers and good luck all

This bit of info is hopefully helpful:
In the Windsward T1 house (single room + balcony overlooking the main trading/crafting area), the freeze/crash issue doesn’t happen when decorating or manipulating objects INSIDE of the house. However, the game consistently freezes up and sometimes crashes when manipulating objects on the balcony, from which other players outside of the house are visible.

That’s different from the other reports so far, and gives us a new data point. Def helpful. Thanks.

I have the problem both inside and outside the house. I moved to trying to put the important things I wanted outside instead of in because there were less random things for the object I was trying to move to get stuck on. trying to move it across the room causes it to just stick. like I had the chest get stuck on the wall a couple times even though I was just moving it.

@Kay thanks for acknowledging!

So I have that second floor T1 house in WW on the Tlalocan world. Ive got it down to a science to freeze my game.

Go out on the balcony - try to edit - crashes - now with my absolute patience, if I wait like 45sec, it recovers itself, and unless I get out of edit mode/ leave the house, it will happen every 10 seconds or so.

But if I stay inside and dont let my camera point to/render the outside, I can do the jig while cooking dinner singing showtunes and its as stable as can be. Theres like 4 threads 60 pages long on the official forms, and theres not been an acknowledgment anywhere about it from devs etc.

The same bug with a frieze for a few seconds when installing furniture in Everfoll. And the second bug is in the same house with inventory, when installed with a chest, the limit does not increase.

same here and for all my friends!

you can see the decoration counts (“decoration placed”) goes crazy before the freeze, then goes back to normal. if this can helps. I think this is exclusively in decoration mode. when the freeze ends, the number of decoration come back to normal. check on posted videos.

Its a problem at all locations. Found a workaround though. The moment the decoration menu pops up, check the box for showing only items you have, and try to select a different category than All items. The freezing will stop and you should be able to decorate normally again.

Ive only experienced this in Windsward.
i have had houses in Windsward, first light, wevers fen and reekwaters.

In Windsward it freezes sometimes (like 50/50) when pressing B to pull up the UI for placing decorations etc.

Think it might have something to do with high populated towns. - seems like it loads alot, sometime it crahes the game sometimes i can escape it and try again.

On my end when in decoration mode it doesn’t seem to be a consistent item/object causing this freezing. I do know that when my game freezes, it brings my ‘Decorations Placed’ in the top right down to 0 and recounts all the way up to my current active placed objects. Additionally I have stats enabled and my RTT goes from ~180ms at the freeze, up to ~2000ms right when the freeze ends.

  1. Game freezes in decoration mode
  2. after 20+ seconds (variable) it unfreezes but is very choppy
2a) during this choppy period my decorations counter in the top right starts at 0 and quickly recounts my placed objects
2b) during this period my RTT spikes to ~2000ms and then drops back down to my ~180ms average
  3. after the recount and RTT normalize, it is usually very choppy and if I don’t leave decorations mode it will typically go right back into a freeze and repeat this cycle.
