I don’t know if the Devs team predicted this, but one of the most popular greatsword builds on the PTR, and probably live too, is GS + Rapeiria and GS + Bow.
The strangest thing is that these builds tend to have little constitution, light armor and several of them use the “tank” strand of GS (right side skills).
So I have a build with a lot of mobility, a lot of damage, a lot of lifesteal and that can block as efficiently as a GG shield.
I already predict the balancing hell that will be.
I’ve played with it on str, dex, and a mix of both and find it really fits with almost anything. There will certainly be cheese builds, but i just hope they don’t neuter it in all the other applications because of this.
I can’t wait for the update. Trenchant recovery + runeglass gems with stamina on hit. This combo in PVE will allow you to spam heavy attacks in onslaught forever. Gonna be so fun it’s stupid
Who needs tanks if you can aoe heal and deal dmg at the same time
Only when the patch drops. I think it’s a higher skill cap than most people are expecting, at least for PvP. When folks go into onslaught and take more damage and get deleted in seconds, they’ll go back.
GS/rapier will be the most annoying build, I think.
I was one of those who defended the GS being dex/str, because sowrd is like that too, but I didn’t expect how toxic this combination could be. Really gs has to be just Str.
But even then, the problem is more rapier than it is GS.
I mean … we all knew GS will be op on launch. Every game does this with new weapons and classes to get people back into the game. But I don’t think the core design is flawed.
For bow, for example, I just don’t see most people taking GS over rapier or spear. Some will, sure, but the meta will settle.
