Dev update - Anniversary.. I think AGS missed their mark

As much as I love AGS and New World, this might (sadly) be the case as to why nothing patched in today.

I believe the video was made a few weeks back when they released the PTR. If you pay attention they mention the PTR and the new dungeon a lot making me think the video was recorded way before the anniversary date.

Anyway, they did a good job so far, things still need to be improved, but you guys are way to demanding lately. We are not paying monthly for this game yet they still work on it much more than other companies do on their own games

That’s entirely feasible.

Yay one year. Not exactly a major event is it?

Sort of sounds a bit like when I was a teenager and we celebrated our “one month anniversary” and got all excited about it.

Five years, maybe 10. But one? And this is the outrage because of it? It’s just one year. The passing of time roughly equal the time it takes our planet to orbit our sun in one full rotation is a whole lot less important than literally everything they spoke about in the dev update.

So much less important. Please, perspective.

Flashing a code on screen for some kind of title or cosmetic item could’ve definitely helped to drive home that anniversary theme for everybody watching the video. Definitely feels kinda off to “celebrate” without anything happening in game.

Besides that I think people expected too much in terms of the video itself. We’re getting a new roadmap with the next update and I’m perfectly fine with that.

@BRADLEY People are just unhappy in general and looking for things to cry about. These people crying are making probably the dumbest complaint I have ever seen about a game. It is so nonsensical I actually thought the complaints were sarcasm when I first read them.

So people really are focusing on there not being a free lollipop?

I thought the dev video was a big info dump. For example confirmed coming:

  • raids
  • solo end game content
  • mounts (not soon)
  • inventory management
  • separate solo/group queues for OPR

They talked about areas they want to focus on and improve including less grind, better rewards, better performance

Please, dont take that as a “anniversary” video. Its just a regular dev video, has nothing to do with their year anniversary what is the main topic here

An achievement at the minimum. I mean bare minimum…but even that was too elusive to push out.

I would not phrase it in such a demeaning way by calling folks who are concerned “crying”, but they are definitely unhappy and rightfully so.
The game has more bugs now than ever. Gold dupes are STILL happening. Companies are running entire servers with their shell accounts (my entire server is run by one faction, one company and their shells).
Housing has been borked for 10 weeks now. It does not calculate.

So are people unhappy? ABSOLUTELY, but they are not crying, they are voicing their concern and disapproval. Some do it constructively, and some do not but its feedback nonetheless.

Dumb complaints about what? New Worlds FIRST ANNIVERSARY? Ya, that is actually a pretty big thing. 5 years would be next, then 10. I doubt we see three personally.
The fact that NOTHING was done to celebrate their anniversary is pretty telling. Imagine a couple where one of them was super excited about the day (us) and the other seemingly completely forgot about it (AGS). So…I don’t really see how you can classify this as being “dumb” when it seems like a pretty natural outcome to me.

Brimstone Sands? Hello?

Have you even checked the scope of the next update in the PTR?

I have played alot of MMO’s and Every Single one of them make big deals out of Anniversary’s.
I can see where MMO players would think something was going to happen today.
I myself have been looking forward to today, because I love events. and have NEVER played an mmo that didn’t have an anniversary event. So I too Thought something was going to happen, a cake, a cosmetic a twitch drop something.
So no they/we aren’t crying, they/we aren’t complaining, Just Shocked They didn’t do something, and Ride the momentum they are currently on.

It was wise of them to not do anything as anniversary imo. Probably they want to get the game to the point where they really want it to be and celebrate when they do so. Yes they’ve improved a whole lot, but needs a bit more.

Fresh start servers will most likely come at the same time as Brimstone update, not sure why they would open them earlier? It just makes more sense. If it comes later then they dropping the ball.

lol yeah not an anniversary video - that was just cake for lunch and those were the hats they like to wear all the time.

Well, if you think about it, players on fresh start servers will probably need at least 1-2 weeks to hit Brimstone. On the PTR they were able to disable everything Brimstone related and only release the revamped starting experience, so they would be able to do the same on the live servers I assume? So when the new patch actually hits players on fresh start servers could also participate in the Halloween event and Brimstone stuff straight away.

While I do agree that I expected a lot more ‘announcements’ , roadmaps and events to mark the first year there were four big positives for me that I am really really excited about!

  1. Raids.

Super excited about this. It’s something iv wanted right from the begining and I am glad they are heading down this route. Please please make this hard content. They mentioned 10 and 25 as well. For the record I think they should have both player counts.

  1. Mobs agro range in Expedition

They only very briefly touched on this point - they stated that they gave a lot more thought into the range that mobs agro in the expedition and that we would have to think about how to pull mobs so that we don’t agro too many. This is something I always enjoyed in WoW and I’m glad they are thinking about this in the expeditions. It would be cool to think about pulls rather than just running in from one set to another.

  1. Mounts

I’m hyped to see how they implement this. It’s great to hear an ‘official’ confirmation that they are working on it. Excited to see if it would involve something more than just spawning a mount that you get from a drop. Maybe some sort of skill to breed them? Etc.

  1. Jumping Puzzles / Hidden Objects

Super pumped for this too. Iv always loved exploration and I’m so glad that they are looking into rewarding player exploration and also including exciting things to do in the world such as jumping puzzles!

I agree with you, really looking forward to all of these. I just hope they build a system/profession around mounts. I played Black Desert Online and one of my favorite lifeskills were Horse breeding, going out to the wild, taming them, leveling them up and breeding them… So far I think New World came up with very unique systems that I haven’t seen before, like the Expertise system (I’m probably one of the few people that actually likes it :D), so I’m really looking forward to seeing their take on mounts.
