Dev Update video not great

I’m worried with the population dropping so low again. Brass was merged into Steel and everyone freaked about queues… Well a couple weeks later and queues are the last thing to worry about.

Arenas and Depths should be nice. But June not bringing anything big… Past months that skipped any kind of content-add led to a real slump in the game because so many people take a break.

I like playing different roles in NW but I absolutely loathe finding and swapping out the gear… And the attributes… And the weapon masteries sometimes. I just wanna swap and get into the fun. The moment I put my healer kit away, someone needs a healer again and… Ugh.

Compare to ff14 since it’s relaunch; one click swaps your weapon, class, equips all gear, switches hotbar etc etc. One click :face_with_spiral_eyes: NW gear and builds are much more nuanced, so one click is probably overkill but… Anyway.

If it was easy to swap builds, it’d be so much easier to fill slots in expeditions or arenas… And I wouldn’t end up bored so quickly. I find myself trying to choose between… Do I go swap build to healer? Or would I rather just alt-F4 and go clean the kitchen?

It has become a 50-50 shot on that choice now.

Haha yeah, wondering maybe if it’s time to take a break for a bit. Really wish it was easier to swap between builds, gear, etc. I mostly heal but every time I swap to something else I feel the same, someone needs a healer again haha.

Want to gather resources but my storage is full. It can’t hold much. The storage system in this game feels so so bad.

Want to explore the world but there really isn’t much. Why don’t we have a randomized node system so the world feels more dynamic? Has things to look forward to such as orichalcum meteors falling, rare single loot chests that spawn and if you are the first to find them you are rewarded, rare mobs, world bosses, treasure maps, etc. So much potential. Think I have more fun with player made hide and seek events that send me searching across Aeternum than anything AGS has out right now.

Maybe I’ll go clean my kitchen for a few months, maybe a year haha. That or try another MMO in the meantime.

Ya I think that instinct of not discussing it as a member of the team tends to be the best for the boys in legal and HR … its our job to disseminate misinformation and rumors about why someone was fired, ty

Sometimes its just something as small as having one too many at a work event (not on the clock) but they still ‘represent the company’

Also yeah CM’s always gotta deliver the bad news they catch a lot of heat for things that arent up to them… on the plus side it seems like AGS lets CMs engage to at least acknowledge an issue is happening… some companies I wont name any that are partnered with Activision I feel like they get paid to be the bad guy

The games not making money anymore so no company in their right mind would spend more and sink more resources into something that’s becoming unprofitable.

They need to find a way to engage new players but at the same time keep our interest.

Personnaly I’d love to have a script of the video. Not all aspect of the Dev Update is interesting for me.

I just find it kinda strange how many times the development and community team in the videos emphasize that they’re listening to the players when the patchnotes clearly demonstate that they aren’t. It’s not like saying it over and over again makes it a reality.

I published this list a while ago and while I’m aware all of these things take time and need to be properly designed first, these are all ideas that have been tossed around the forums for months and months and months. Some of them come up literally every single week on the forums and there hasn’t been a single bit of feedback or conversation around these great ideas with the community team.

Even though I don’t care if I get praise for the effort that I put in or not, it is still shocking that the CMs don’t get involved in these big threads, like ever. It just feels like nobody in the community team truly cares and like we’re talking against a wall. It feels like all of our feedback just gets thrown into the void. And it’s a shame, because most of us are here, because we are passionate about the future of the game. Amazon Games Studios advertises itself as the most player-centric game developer, but that couldn’t be further from reality.

Like did any CM ever wonder why that meme image gets thrown around a lot recently?

It’s because we have absolutely 0% trust in you guys that any of our feedback ever reaches any developer.

So I checked PTR topics and people on Bow thread said they added some shadow nerf to bow while we still can one shot people with BB . Guess I’ll keep exploring EFT this week

Yeap. Wasn’t interesting. Kinda knew about everything after reading PTR patch notes. Questions like shell companies and other QOL are not being asked and answered in the video.

Not everyone is on the PTR. So to us the Dev uodates are mostlynnew information.

@Shadow_Fox Greetings, first I want to apologize for the recklessness I’ve shown here on these forums. I will endeavor to try to be better.

Now down to the elephant in the room. In order for new and returning players to be a contributing factor in this game’s PvP and PvE. They must grind 3 if not 5 times more than people who rushed through the game’s gear progression at release. Which from what I keep hearing accounts to more than 600 hours of actually grinding.

@Shadow_Fox I would suggest that AGS put in strong catchup mechanics into New World. If AGS is to have any hope convincing more than masochists to play New World. While being hundreds if not thousands of hours of grind behind.

@Shadow_Fox I see AGS is putting in 3v3s. But just think to yourself. Do you think it’s fun to lose by default in PvP. Simply because someone else spent more time PvE, or got boosted by actual malignant company trolls. Who gets a rise out of making more and more players quit the game.

@Shadow_Fox I truly believe that you staff at AGS. Should tackle the root of the most gross problem. That potential new and returning players will face should they try New World again.

Because the way I see it, as someone who actually does play a Hardcore Open World Forced PvP Grinder MMO.(10,000 hours and counting) The situation on servers like Orun in New World is dire. To the point if we don’t play within the 4 to 5 hours of US east peak time. We don’t get to do expeditions to earn gear. And our OPR queues are over 1 1/2 hours. So, I personally think that AGS, should think about what caught the initial interests of the gamers at large. And what turned away the interests of the gamers at large.

@Shadow_Fox , I wish you and the rest of the staff at AGS. The best of luck moving forward.

Agreed, happy they made one but i do appreciate when they talk about more plans for the future even if vague af, I already know all about the next update. I just want to see what I have to look forwards to.

The thing is most people still playing the game at this stage are very very much dedicated to it.

And they know their shit to very much details. So the audience for a dev video are a lot of “experts” and veterans who are looking for in depth information.

  • How will the item scaling work in arena?
  • Will there be x-server arenas?
  • If not, what statistics do they have to make sure arena queues will be acceptable also on low population servers?
  • What ideas do you have for a match making system?
  • How do you select player composition for arena to avoid there will e.g. be 3 healers in one team?

Just a couple of obvious questions taken from the forum. So whenever the devs talk about an arena “deep dive” and fail to adress at least the obvious questions - it just does not instill a lot of trust they know what they are doing.

And I go one step further, coming up with such shallow information to the audience still playing the game is disrespectful.

My only explanation is they had to cut personal to an extent so they have to reducr any external communication (dev video, dev block, forum moderation) to the barest minimum. And doing superficial videos like that does not require a lot of alignment or preparation.

I think the Devs are just gun shy about making promises that they are unsure they can keep.

@Shadow_Fox I’m actually scared when some CM post on any of my topics. It’s already consistent when one does that, the topic will be buried forever in a pile of “to ignore” content.

As for dev videos, they’re very informative, of what is not going to make to the game, things that has being asked since release: solo content, factionless characters, transparency, real road map, communication.
I stated in other 2 topics and repeat here, live Q&A. Devs waste time playing arenas for some people amusement, but don’t care to answer a few questions from their costumers, people that are here, day after day, supporting their product, just to be ignored on game direction decisions.

They say they hear us ,but they really dont. Rng crafting suck. Multiple threads on this but no change. Im down to 1 to 2 hours a day. Think im close to done.

Best part of the dev video was @Luxendra leaving me hanging about what “June” meant for the Double Eggs-p. >.<

I like a little suspense, but OP is wrong when they said nothing in July… I think he meant June which is fine because a good TICK/TOCK cycle fits the likely scrum model they’re doing for development. I’d rather have a big patch month followed by a month of fixes and QOL things, than trying to shove content down every month.

What I want is a dev video talking about the cutscene at the end of Tempest’s Heart. Y’all left a hundred questions on that sucker and I hope there’s a followup to all of it. We need more info on the lost - as their raising of Thorpe seems to hint at a larger story there.

I would like to see the developers play other MMORPGs to figure out what went right.

Market research.

Learn, study and take notes on the design elements used. Figure what can work and pull inspiration. What gameplay features are deemed “industry standard?”

What do they have as a competitive advantage over your offering? Take recordings (VODs) and review gameplay footage internally.

Game is just on a steady decline, so sad.

95% of us have read the PTR patch notes that were out 1 month ago. Making a video to talk about what we already know is painful. The videos should always be about what is coming next and why. Get us excited for what’s to come, not what is already here on PTR that we’ve tested a month ago. Give us previews, sneak peeks, give us a carrot.
