If the community stays this jaded and angry with the New World things will not improve moving forward. I see it all the time…a player says, “hey I like this thing about the game,” and then a host of angry dudes jump into the thread and start lighting fires for a variety of reasons. Often a player gets straight up insulted and attacked for liking something about a game they play. It’s insane.
The development team needs to address how much good will they’ve burned with the general community because of the broken promises, dupes, performance issues, and bugs that have plagued the title since launch. Perhaps most damaging was the decision to change the developmental focus last January–now that 97% of the launch population has moved on many who are still around are increasingly willing to admit that was a mistake.
Today, people are angry the game is so mechanically sound and fun at early levels but developmentally defunct and unfun after level 60.
Addressing these things can be a slippery slope, but it’s important developers stop ignoring the criticism being directed at the game and begin dealing with it head-on. People are reading and seeing these things everywhere, so much so the game has become something of a meme in the MMO they read some of the toughest comments and talk about how they’re mitigating the concerns people have.
Do the angry players have a point? Largely, yeah I think many do.
While I absolutely like New World and chose to play it a lot, I get why so many are mad.
For example, on my server the only community that’s still alive and active are the PvPr’s–and, their content is very thin.
- Where are the serverwide leaderboards?
- Where are the serverwide leaderboards?
- Where are the open world PvP objectives that don’t come from a static mission board?
- Where’s a PvP currency we can earn to unlock skills, abilities, etc? * Where’s the ranked PvP arena?
- Can dead servers start joining OPR rounds against other servers so they can play the game?
- Why is there just 1 OPR map. How many times can a person realistically run the same map over and over before burning out?
And look, this isn’t a PvP versus PvE thing. I’m sure there’s concerns PvE players have too and all that would go on a separate list. It’s a logical fallacy, all or nothing thinking, to assume it has to be one over the other; that’s not what this is about. It’s just that on my server, Pluto EST, it’s the PvP community that’s most vocal and active still. PvE stuff happens, but I don’t see people talking about it in my Company or in local nearly as often as I do people forming up for and discussing OPRs.
In closing, I get why people are angry and I’m convinced think the sooner developers start talking about perceived shortcomings and plans to mitigate these concerns in the future, the calmer people are going to get. When people feel like they’re not being heard or are being ignored they tend to get louder, which is the principal reason why I feel general toxicity in the community continues to be a problem and people are giving up and moving on to play other games.
