I have a question about tanking.
How do you block without running out of stamina? Do you need specific perks? Cilia seems to break my shield in a few hits.

Stamina regens when you stop blocking.
You need to learn which attacks deal a disproportionate amount of stamina damage to health.
You dont block everything health is there to be healed.
You block… then take dmg and swing get down below 50% block…rinse repeat. If you just hold block you doing it wro g based on game mechanics.
Specifically she jabbs or spear throws after her three slashed. As her stack climbs its that damage from the final attack that gets you killed. The slashes are nominal health damage individually.
During the physical phase when stacks get higher you block a swipe eat a swipe block a swipe and dodge the final attack to avoid the stagger from shield breaking. You will usually be full stam before that cycle repeats if your not eat first swipe…blobk block doge.
Let your shield down between get used to the timing.
Also hearty and sturdy are manditory tank perks.
you dont block every attack, thats the only secret to block.
some attack you block, some attack you dodge, some attack you just eat it, some attack you walkaway.
All you need to to is to figure out which attack fits in which catagory
I’m not giving up survivability to be a Light Tank. I’m more effective and arguably have more survivability than a Heavy tank.
I can also eat the “big girl” strikes, if absolutely needed, but there’s no reason to, since the developers themselves provide study and study energy, which are what make light tanking so viable to begin with. As a light tank, I recharge stamina faster than an enemy can counter, resulting in more stamina gain than stamina lost per second.
You think the devs had no idea how beneficial those perks would be? I bet they did, because they increased build diversity.
I can eat everything, yay fortify cap.
I can block every attack in the game, except Cilla past 17, Thorpe combos, or Zhou’s Eggnog ability. Those are all choreographed, and since they don’t follow and attack in place, dodge. Heavies can dodge, too.
Eating attacks that you can situationally block or dodge is the sign of a bad tank.
Light tanks, like I said, are just tanks who know their role at an expert or ace level.
250 strength makes light and heavy attacks cause stamina regen bonus. Bonus if in sacred ground, too. Bonus from study energy… less stamina damage taken with sturdy.
People think devs didn’t intend on armor diversity for tanks but all these design decisions scream otherwise.
That is my point. This is BROKEN.
I am willing to bet they never intended them to function for Tanks in PVE to an extent that you can run light armor.
I haven’t seen a dev yet in any threat jump in and declare its working as intended. This logic your proposing is the same logic people use to justify exploits and cheats. It works there for it must be intended but that isn’t the case. I’m not saying you should be banned for doing it or that your exploiting. Simply that if it’s good for the goose its good for the gander in terms of logic.
I highly doubt they intend a tank to be in light when they force a healer into light. There is ZERO diversity for heals.
the way they force healer to be in light is most stupid thing.,
they should rework the skill, make aoe channeling ability, tripple mana cost and doubel casting time of single target heal.
only allow one single target heal that can selfheal.
reducing healing # by 50%.
remoe tab targeting, remove auto targeting , make heal miss if target is in iframe.
The devs cannot convince people to tank if they don’t want to.
What they can do, is add a reward for tanks (or any role that is in shortage), so that the existing tanks will tank more often.
That’s what other MMOs do, but they do it for a cross-server group finder.
This is already a thing. There are plenty of examples where you cast a heal and it lands and visually you see the spell but the persons health doesnt move. They are usually in a dodge animation when that happens. Its unconsistent but it has to do with direct heals being a small aoe still.
I disagree with 90% of what you said. Aoe HOTs are the big problem imo not actual healing power.
Fortification in general is a problem too.
Ttk is too fast and needs to be lowered you can do that by tweaking up hp all together while also increasing damage output. And revisit how stamina regen works, they probably need to remove every shirking perk they added.
in effect making low con low armor players actual glass gannons. Right now the whole chess board is glass. This would make players with high con and armor harder to kill while making light users easier to kill as they should be
I friendliSt any competent tank / healer I run m10 with, problem solved.
True you don’t need to have max const to tank. I have been trying out some of easy-to-get ward gear which comes with str rather than const, and it is more than doable.
Do need to know your way around boss and having a decent healer who keeps an eye out for any “mistakes” helps ![]()
Because who wants to worry about blocking when you can just spam left click as a dps? Lol all jokes aside, I became a tank for this reason, and it’s been working great for me. Just switch to tank and you will have no problem filling queues.
What if put all carnelian gems? Somebody tried?
that is extremly rare to dodge a heal and when it happens i think its a bug.
Also AOE is complelete ignores iframe.
if you think you can iframe a heal, teamup with a healer and try to do it.
i bet you prob can do it once in 100 times at max.
it at least 10x-100x harder to do it intentionally compare to you dodge a fireball
My wife heals i tank i definatley hear her complain about me dodging heals. But i do wonder if its a actual dodge, bug, or ui lag. I usually just dodged when she said it but its possible i took damage same time to offset her heal but id expect it to movr health one way or another.
I think with direct heals the placement and execution of the heal is alot closer timewise. Its also possible the green animation occurs before a heal registers. But something is screwy that it can happen at all.
Our joke is her spell fizzled.
I thought Maramma was focused more on PVP? Dont need tanks for that.
As someone who has done pretty much nothing else but tank in MMO’s for roughly 20 years, I personally feel what plays an important role in as to why tanks in New World may relatively be even more rare than in other titles is because tanking here is just a bit more finnicky. Mostly because there is just a lack of solid ranged taunts to throw, pile up a big pack of mobs and focus on cycling defensive skills.
Also, the game doesn’t really effectively guide you into playing a tank effectively. For DPS it’s easy, just pick up whatever the f just dropped and use it. For a lot of PvE content you can get away with just about any skills. Sure, some are more effective than others. And once playing actual more endgame PvE actually throwing in some effort becomes more important. But the path getting there? Non-mutated dungeons? It hardly matters, as long as you do something. Tanking wise just doesn’t hold true though, with the same approach you’re just pretty much a low damage dealing DPS and are losing agro all over the place.
The game doesn’t quite introduce you to carnelian gems for example, which if you ask me just ought to go, just have this replaced by a passive tanking skill instead to be fair. The game also very poorly
The game also doesn’t provide you with any decent visible or audio queues on having agro or being about to lose agro. Making it erratic if you are not quite sure on as to what you’re doing.
And sure, practice makes perfect. But most people tend to be turned off if the learning process in this is faces with more hostile/vocal group members. This being nothing new in any MMO. Tanks and healers are far more likely to be thrown the blame if anything goes wrong, than the DPS.
Yes it does? When you have threat, you get a thick, red outline around the enemy name, health, and stamina box. I’m colorblind and have no problem seeing what mobs I have threat on and what mobs I don’t.
Tanks have plenty of AoE abilities that can be used to gather up enemies. If that’s not enough, body pulling works great, or opening up with a shield rush, as it draws threat from all enemies near the target.
Okay, so you’re a tank in other MMOs, but your comments make it clear that you haven’t done it in New World since you don’t know the basics.
I dunno, dude. You talk here, a lot. With at least two accounts, at that. You play a paladin and strongly prefer low con light tanking. FFS… we get it. Maybe pass the mic over for a bit.
She always does.
In Brazil, we call this the need for validation.
Since you can tank in light and even some instance Zero tanking (just DPS block with your axe\hammer at the right time.)
Time for them to review heavy armor and review tanking.
