(Devs Read) What do you think will bring players back to new world

Just fix existing problems first.

  1. Fix the most easily reproducible bugs that everyone experiences (ie inability to participate in chat after Outpost Rush games, repetitive war/invasion/achievement messages, etc).
  2. Fix combat mechanics (ie weapon swap desync, slowness bug, etc).
  3. Fix other highly reported bugs (ie portals can’t be closed and all mobs defeated, Wyrdwood trees can’t be chopped until you logout/login, etc).

Coming from wow you would get coins from drops but you always had to visit a repair vendor or use an expensive repair bot with the engineering profession.

It seems as you are complaining about a gift or a nice perk you got in this game but you think the gift is not good enough but you are forgetting that what makes the most sense is for you not to be able to repair inside a dungeon at all without repair kits that you craft from repair parts in the town.

“Give them a finger, and they’ll take the whole hand”

I’m not here to debate lore from this game or others. The mechanic is just put in place as a gold sink. We have enough gold sinks.

The thread is about how to get people to come back. Number 1 thing would be treating it like a GAME and not a JOB.

Ok but the things you mention would get players that didnt leave to leave. So all you would end up with are people that will never be pleased and will always want more nerfs.

You are literally demanding that it should be no concequences to failing… Free of charge. Just die and die, fail over and over. No biggie. Because you dont actually pay anything if you dont die, your coin drops will cover normal wear and tear.

I mean we are talking about totally gutting crafting professions here with nothing in return just so that people can fail more.

I’m on the same boat really.

  • Got exited to play an mmo again after a looong time, friends organizing, and all that;

  • Than we landed separated, some were stuck in queue;

  • We get together only to be unable to share quests;

  • Play the game as basically a single player, everybody together on discord but not in game. Most interactions with friends is done to unload materials to our crafter, or rare dungeon runs;

  • We started logging in less and less, until the crafting/elite changes. Now only one of us play and he is only playing the market at this point.

That is it. New World is a game that maneges to be unfun even with your friends, unless you have a few dozen of them.

A complete wipe and relaunch only after all exonomy is removed from the game with no trading at all. No bots/no dups/no cheats.

You can’t keep pumping out games for decades with the exact issues that were always game ruiners. People will have shorter and shorter tension spans until we just stop playing these types of games. This game is a slum.

working game is requisiste, but thats not going to make people return. thats going to keep them there if they do return

I personally know more than one person who left because it felt like a job just to keep playing. Wanna run a dungeon? Go grind an orb. Wanna try and farm watermark? Go chest run. Wanna try something exceedingly hard? Go farm repair parts and gold.

It is tedious and it IS driving people away. People want to do something cool and feel awesome. They don’t want to get off real life work and go video game work (in every scenario, I’m aware people play job simulator games).

You don’t, maybe, but, empirically, most MMORPG players very much do like those and don’t like New World, so…

If they add, 3v3, 2vs2 and maybe 5vs5 with ranks;
New dungeons with a tier system;
New map, not mandatory;
Fix all the perks and gems that arent working;

Im a happy man.

Just you wait till Star Citizen. Want to stay alive, eat and drink. Want to drink, take of your helmet :crazy_face:.

The orb concept needs to change, I definitely agree on that. I do not oppose to some form of key, but a few adjustments could be done to make it a lot more manageable for most players.

  1. Make them no longer Bind of Pickup.
  2. Make orbs ‘personal’. Instead of 1 for an entire party. That way, either reducing the number of ingredients per orb by 5, or letting the recipe produce 5 orbs.
  3. Consider allowing orbless access to dungeons as well. But in that case just as a run for experience and basic drops. Whereas if you use an orb, you get access to an orb loot table.

Ok but that is the game. That is how this games work.

We could all try the game for free in the open beta befor launch. We could watch thousands of videos and read hundreds of guides and find all info about this game. So what exactly did these people expect when this is a core feature of this game? It makes no sense to me.

Why does this game have to cater to people that don’t like THIS game? I like this game. I love the gathering and crafting. I hate the bugs and glitches and I would need more content added to stick around over time. But I bought this game and not some other game that people ask for.

Paying coins after a wipe to repair if you don’t have repair kits are part of THIS game. And it has always been part of THIS game.

So how popular are New World compared to other MMORPGs?

Pick any other MMORPG and tell me what daily peak they have and concurrent players they have. Or give me an estimate and explain how you reach that conclusion. This is a trick question because you don’t have any data for other mmorpgs as far as I know.

AGS need to drop the mentality that grinding is “end game”. It isnt. Pointless grinding for grinding sake is why the game is bleeding players. People need something to do after the grind, something that gives you a reason to grind. You have the tower in final fantasy 14. Give us a real challenge not HP sponges that block the way to chests.

Possibly fixing the terrible latency and rubberbanding in PvP. Then moving back to skill based PvP not whatever the current version is

In general, bug fixes and changes in Endgame to make it less grindy.
Also actual new content like weapons or zones and dungeons.

I think the game is far too under-developed to improve for the avg MMO player at this point.

All of my friends that quit were pvp oriented players. The PVE focused players lasted longer but inevitably quit as well.

Smaller scale pvp arenas with ladders and ranking could turn the game around, because it has fun pvp mechanics, and there is definetly a charm to 3v3s or 6v6s. 20v20 is not competitive or fun. Wars aren’t even fun when you win, and the hammer meta is a meme waste of time.

Creating a daily pvp system for open world that encourages participation without zerging would attract more pvp players also. Real pvp players don’t want to zerg. That’s not fun.

For PVE they need more community events. The turkey spawns should be a sign to them that world bosses work… World bosses on a 24hr timer are great in MMOs. The fact every boss in this game respawns every 5 minutes is a joke. It makes it feel as if nothing in the game is all that important. They should have minibosses throughout the map, rare spawns with 1-3hr windows. Large bosses that require zergs every 24hrs, and perhaps even bosses in pvp zones where you have to fight over with your faction to claim the boss.

There’s so many things they can do, but everything in this game is designed in the simplest form possible with no depth.

Ah, the go-to copium-huffer line. How about this – FFXIV’s concurrent players on Steam right now are getting close to New World’s, and it’s well known that the overwhelming majority of FFXIV’s players use the PC client or PS4. Conservatively, FFXIV probably has five times the active players New World does, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were 10 times or more. It absolutely dwarfs New World.

Content isn’t a big thing with me, it’s peoples own fault for blowing through everything in a day or so, what will bring me back is getting rid of the massive FPS drops even on a good PC, better crafting, bot removal, bug fixes and this is not a deal breaker but I would love a vendor to sell junk to, oh and get rid of the cost to fast travel it’s just stupid.

Ok so now you have compared New World to one the most popular and successful and long living games in the history of gaming. I agree, FFXIV is much more popular than New World.

How about other MMORPGs?

in many years of mmo history, the only thing that successfuly brings massive amount of players back to the game is adding either:

  • new open world maps
  • new dungeons
  • new game systems like pvp battlegrounds

fixing stuff or making stuff work better than it used to might make current player base happy. people who already left are already committed into their new game of choice. they will most likely just say comment of approval like " cool that they fixed it, but its too late for me "

They need to:

Decide what this game is.
Make the game fit what they want the game to be.

With all these knee-jerk reactions I think we can tell AGS try to evolve what the game is dependent on the current mood. No wonder so many quit originally, the game was not for them they just wanted it to be (I am one of them but still spend some time mucking about in the game because some works for me, but not long term).

So, what is New World, AGS? Already many left because it wasn’t what they personally wanted but I still see no clear effort to stick to a style (basically it is PvP “hardcore” with bolt-ons for the rest because a mmorpg game can’t live on PvP alone it seems and pull in a high population that AGS probably want).

I know in the long run it won’t be for me personally, I prefer the solo and PvE side of these games (since grouping so far in this game has been horrendous personally, no way am I ever setting foot in these dungeons again), but I think they would do well to decide on a type of game and keep at it or else it will water down any experience they provide.
